Default “Filler” card starts an interesting project...

Long-ish (and most likely underwhelming) post.

As we all know, occasionally sellers/traders sometimes throw in some filler cards to protect the card you’ve actually purchased/traded for.

Maybe two years ago I got a package that had some Chromey basketball cards as filler. I like all major sports and the NBA as much as the next guy, but only collect baseball cards. Well, typically I don’t even bother tumbling through the filler - they either go into the recycle bin, or in with the packing material to also be used as filler. Since these cards were foreign to me, I checked them out and one of the cards was this one.

Being a casual OU & NCAA hoops fan, I absolutely knew all about Trae Young and this had an RC logo, so I thought, well, put this one in a sleeve and top loader for poops and giggles.

Well, fast forward two years, I randomly came across this card while looking for something else and decided to look up some completed sales since everyone over here says that basketball cards are skyrocketing right now. I was floored to see what this BASE card of a semi-star NBA player was going for and immediately listed it for $125. A few days later someone offered $100 and I accepted instantly.

Since I quite literally started from $0, I figured I’d channel one of my favorite seasons of Wheeler Dealers when they’d start with a $0 car and “trade up” to a better car each week.

After selling the Trae Young for $100 (calling it $90 after fees) I checked out several options for best potential resale value and settled on a nice looking 2020 Chrome Pink Ref LouBob for $80 plus tax and shipping. Once I get that in hand, I’ll add a pic and then the “next episode” will begin.

If you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading my dumb post.

Good post. Like the idea. Also why it's bad to use RC basketball cards as fillers or bonus cards and why you should keep them if you get them.

That’s awesome. I got a ‘12 Prizm Bryce Harper as a filler cards three years ago. Prior to the Prizm run up. Thanks Gary V
