Default Top 10 players for Rookie Cards 2020

This is obvious just for players who have RC's for this year. Here is my top ten list of who I feel will have the best value. These are my favorites.

1- Bo Bichette (SS who can do it all)
2- Yordan Alvarez (Way too good of a hitter)
3- Luis Robert (Lots of talent, needs to improve)
4- Dustin May (nasty stuff)
5- Kyle Lewis (Seems like a steady player who will benefit once the other prospects show up)
6- Gavin Lux (Who knows?)
7- Zac Gallen (Solid)
8- Jesus Luzardo (Looked good this weekend, kinda up and down)
9- Trent Grisham (Solid hitter)
10- Tony Gossolin (Another Dodgers pitcher in a pitchers ballpark)

What are your thoughts?

Bichette is my favorite of the bunch, so I certainly agree with the top ranking. In fact, the top 3 looks right to me.

I like Lewis a lot, but based on age I’d rank Lux higher.

I like Gallen and Luzardo more than May.

I wouldn’t spend too much time on Gonsolin. Not that I think it would be worth investing too much into these guys, but I’d rather gamble a couple bucks on Isan Diaz or Brendan McKay, or maybe even Randy Arozarena. (We’re talking deep sleepers here.) But we also have to see who’s included in Update. If Madrigal is in it, then he would definitely make the list.

Bichette
Yordan
LouRob
Lux
Gallen
Lewis
Madrigal (speculating on Update)
Luzardo
May
Grisham

Nick Madrigal is one of my fav prospects. Nice to see Zac Gallen getting some love. Great list.

Tricky question because if we’re talking card values in the future then that is based on current buy in prices?
Of the guys on your list I’d say Luzardo would probably be the only guy I’d consider buying, cause tightwad cheapskate.

My list would be:

1) Bo - Highest Upside Of All Rookies
2) K-Lew - Biggest Surprise of All Rookies
3) Robert - Huge Hype...But Has Been Pretty Average
4) Lux - Struggling
5) Alvarez - Has fallen off due to injuries....Cheating Scandal

After those five this years class hasn't really developed too many position players. No pitchers have been good enough for their prices to rise/drop dramatically, though I believe Jesus Luzardo is the best choice of all the rookie pitchers.

I like this list. For me Gonsolin is #11 and I'd go Dubon at #9 & slide May to #10. Only a few tweaks other than that.

I wish I could put Isan Diaz there but he does not deserve it thus far.

I also wish Nick Solak's power would come out of witness protection. His ISO is now down to .081...

Luis Robert is the clear cut 1 to me... Im not overly concerned that's he's struggled recently.

Yordan should rebound nicely as well.

I think 2020 topps chrome boxes are a good buy for this reason due to the deep rookie class. I have some sealed retail and picked up some hobby to hold.
My only concern is long term going into 2022, as bichette is a redemption.

Madrigal has the highest floor. Overlooked for lack of power he can do everything else.

Trent Grisham has been a darling of mine in my collecting. His batted ball metrics and swing metrics from both of the last two seasons have been really strong. The results didn't show up in the stat line from his year in MIL last year, but the underlying numbers were still promising. Those have come to light in his first year in SD and he's been playing very well

He's been batting ahead of Tatis virtually every game this year and he is a lot of fun to watch. His batting eye ranks up there among the best in the game right now, and when he gets the right pitch, he ropes it.

Just to draw a parallel, I find watching a guy Luis Robert a bit infuriating to watch due to so many clueless swings and frustrating ABs. Compared to a guy like Grisham, who commands the batters box and is really a surgeon up there.

Future is really bright for Grisham, and he's a core piece of a team that looks slated to have a lot of success over the next 5 years. Had it been a full year, he'd definitely be flirting with a 25/25 or 30/30 season.

I only watched a handful of Padres games but Trent does look like he belongs there. I always admire plate discipline. Also, Topps Chrome is my favorite set of the year. Been buying up all of Bichette parallels.

I'd put Grisham as #2.

I'm thinking Grisham should be higher on the list now. Maybe drop May a few spots. Love the feedback guys!

Although very solid across the board Grisham doesn't seem to have any one standout loud tool that would attract card people IMO.
Could be wrong and am a fan of his team but nothing screams excitement.
Card wise Id rather chase more percieved upside(maybe foolishly) with someone like Arozarena.

Is it because he's not 6' 2" 190?

He's fast, has made a number of terrific diving catches, has a great arm, has a good bat. I think "tools" and stature are commonly interchanged.

Not to say your point won't play a factor, but if there's ever a sport where this sort of thing doesn't matter, it's definitely baseball.

He’s a guy I’d gladly take on my team and pencil in 600abs and strong D with.
Just not someone whose cards excite me on a team with Tatis n Manny. Very good player who will probably improve some. Feels like an AJ pollock or possibly a Brantley type producer. Very valuable to a team but the cards....
My boxes are filled with good baseball players whose best rookie cards don’t bring much unless on a wicked hot streak.

I speculated on Grisham at start of season and bought a bunch cheap.....and now, with really only a modest mark-up compared to all the other rookies....they barely sell at all. He may be good but if he never sells, then Collectors will be very happy with his sub-par cost

When young guys play well, the money to the market will come eventually. I could be dead wrong but I feel like, at worst, he'll be what Albies is to Acuna market wise. Tatis' sidekick

Bruiser Graterol and Adbert Alzolay are two I am buying.

Big market teams with WS pedigree

But I was buying Kyle Wright and Kolby Allard back in the day... lol

I think Grisham could be like Springer. Not the loudest guy on the team but central to the core.

I hope he does well.

I have these bowman Trent Clark's for sale, but no one wants him they want Trent Grisham... then you have to explain that is him, and then they just want the RC stuff anyway.

Only on Blowout can a guy hitting .255 be described as a “surgeon” in the box.

Bichette is the best of the bunch, Robert should have a long career because he's already an excellent defender, I don't think he's the 2nd coming of Trout, maybe more like Jason Heyward
