Noobie Question about Grading PSA or BGS

Hi fellas, long time lurker here.
I was wondering if I can get some insights and help in regards to grading by walking in to PSA or BGS office to get your cards graded? The reason I ask is if someone don't feel comfortable sending by mail their cards worth few thousands of dollars; an option would be take it in personally. How did your experience go? Any tips or lesson learn before walking in and taking your cards to be graded i.e. taking videos or pictures to avoid any damage discrepancy? Thanks in advance for insights and help.

P.S. I used to mail cards to be graded but I'm kind of afraid sending cards via mail now with high value.
