So I thought I'd pull the trigger on a Kobe auto to add to the PC during the off season this year. There are just so many Kobe autos out there, and considering the prices the decision is quite difficult. I'm torn between Flawless, Immaculate, Contenders, and Eminence for the most part. Also NT. The pre panini stuff, although more scarce, doesn't have the same aesthetic appeal to me. One of the big selling points of the listed Panini sets is that they are all on card autos. The gold ink Eminence autos are also very unique and remind me a bit of the MJ masters collection. In terms of long term value where do we think the best place to put my dollars would be? Flawless is probably the cleanest product, but also seems to have the most autos. Eminence the rarest, but lacks that mainstream product demand / recognition. Any new perspectives would be appreciated

I am not a fan of metallic ink auto cards. Is there a track record that they will stand the test of time?
Anything on-card would get my vote. But if they are too expensive get a sticker. NBD in my opinion.

I know there are a lot of people on here who love UD and loathe panini, but I’m not one of them. I think both flawless and immaculate, more so than contenders/eminence (whose brands I would argue don’t have as much long term appeal as other top end issuances, and I agree with the dislike of metallic ink autos stated above) both have good choices that are at least equal to the older UD ones.
However, an option you didn’t mention, which I think are some of the nicest Kobe autos I’ve ever seen, are the National Treasures notable nicknames. If you can find them, and I haven’t seen one in awhile, I think the 2012 version is more attractive than the 2009 version; either way they’re pretty damn sweet. 03 Sp Authentic Signature can be had for less than $2000, I consider it a bargain.
• Great design • Kobe’s first name only signature; personal preference but I like that better • 03 is a great year (Lebron’s rookie season) • On Card autograph |
