Default Is CBS going to be a disaster for Champion's League coverage?

NO live games on TV this week for Matchday 1.

Trying to force everyone to sign up for their app, I guess.

Just like they only showed a few of the knockout round matches on TV last year.

Pretty much any other network would have been better (FOX, ABC/ESPN, NBC, TBS, etc.), because CBS does not have any cable networks, and it's only sports network (CBSSN) is not a part of many cable packages.

This is how it is in Europe sadly. Must buy the add on packages to watch European Football. And every year it changes. I remember family in Italy being stuck with a closet full of hardware,, satellites, boxes bc every year the companies changed rights..
Here in north America we were spoiled.

CBS actually owns many cable networks. Specifically CBS. Which is in every basic cable package. The network is choosing to gouge out the 2-7 million Americans that religiously watch and pay for European soccer coverage (according to the latest data) for $50 a year. $5 a month Really ain't much. Especially bc you can cancel anytime. New Twiglight Zone was pretty decent. I would do it myself but with the sports package from spectrum I get two Spanish channels that happen to always be showing games on HD. Currently showing the Juve game. ALSO with the sports package I do receive CBS sports channel which showed most of the champions league return this past summer and it was great coverage.
Later Today they're airing a program called UEFA goalzo during the second half games live, that says in its description it will whip around the action of the 6 games in play and show all the goals as they come. I do enjoy those type of shows, so looking forward to that.

I doubt it will effect card prices, mainly bc the card prices for Soccer reached its peak this past summer when it was already on CBS.

Also they do not own the Euro or World Cup license thankfully so that should be the next peak for Soccer cards. I doubt that's in jeopardy.

Just like ESPN getting Bundesliga rights, but only showing games on ESPN+. Said a few select games will be on TV. Should have stayed with FS1.

Sadly its a mad dash to secure streaming customers as OTT is dying more and more every day. These companies are all fighting to try to become "sticky". The future is buying what you want which in the end is going to cost as much as cable used to ironically.

After watching The Golazo Show I think this is a decent way to try to get American fans to like soccer more. It's like the Red Zone channel.

It really is.
I've worked in the industry for most of the last decade and any time I was around the higher ups, It has only talk about new ways to secure streaming customers. It really is the future whether we like it or not.

It's a pain in England too. European games are only on BT Sport, they have some PL games too but Sky have more and now Amazon Prime is showing some too. As far as I know though there are no difference in programming between the cable versions and the streaming ones (which I use). Since games have been played without fans they started televising the originally non-televised games amongst the operators and even put a few on free terrestrial TV for the first time in 30 odd years. However that has ended now and they have been moved to PPV (£15 per game), it's caused an uproar especially as those games tend to be ones with the smaller teams.

In the US, it's the first time in roughly 25 years that the CL has not been on live TV.....I remember watching games back in the mid-90's on ESPN.

The funny thing with this whole situation is, I worked for DIRECTV for 7 years starting, around 2012 I would tell the higher ups that everything was going online and streaming was the future, no believed it at the time.

Well that future has come and now its going to be the same way the cable/satellite market was for years in that each is going to go sign exclusive rights to different sports and content providers and then the only way to grow is cannibalize each other to the point that we end up with the same market cable/satellite was/is in with like only 3 providers to choose from and the cost will go through the roof for streaming services.

Get ready its only the beginning with actually having options on streaming right now.

**As a side note for anyone who is interested in Bundesliga and has Verizon, the play unlimited plan for $45 a month includes hulu, disney+ and espn+, pretty sweet not having to pay for all those services being I was already paying $45 month for my line and just switched to this new plan.

I don't want to have to sign up for umpteen different streaming services just to watch one or two things on each one.

I have Netflix, and get Peacock through my Xfininty package...that's plenty for me.

Not going to sign up for CBS All-Access just to watch the Champion's League....

Not the best quality but good enough. And it’s cheap.

I have Dish Network Satellite T.V because I have a heavy thump that loves to channel surf. Anyways I have 5 Latin networks included in my package that always shows the Champions League games, sometimes even games that are just on espn+ so if you want full games find those channels. (Also their commentary and Goal! Calls makes it exciting to watch the games)
