Default People are selling silver rookies for $25 and under. Smh

I don’t know about you but I’m holding on to all of my SP silver rookies from the last four years. The season ended a couple of weeks ago and people are not collecting but dumping cards below their value. It takes time for these guys to develop and they get inserted on a team that has a All Star cast. Even players that had bubble buzz like Gary Trent Jr. He’s only been in the NBA for two years and the guy sold his silver RC well centered sharp corners for $20. I’m not buying any boxes anytime soon and the sales of raw cards have increased dramatically. I don’t think the newbies know how hard it is to pull good silver rookies out of a blaster. This is clearly the time to buy low.

Maybe not the examples you used, but there are some silvers that I’d gladly take $20 for.

Many of the inexperience are on Mercari. I’m going to upload some examples. I agree with you I’ll buy them if they are tired of looking at them. I messaged a seller who sold two silver Lukas in February for a $100 a piece. Had three base Prizm Luka’s. He told me they were easy pulls and wanted to make a quick dollar. I so wanted to emphasize the mistakes he made but he obviously knew.

Not all silver rookies will maintain even that value of $20, especially those from 3-4 years ago that have not shown anything.

Take advantage of it for sure! A lot of people got into cards that don't understand the values of certain cards. Plus with the off-season, some of the lesser known guys are lower, even if they had some success in the bubble. I see a lot of people just dumping to get back whatever they can and I know I am most certainly taking advantage of it while I can.

Those Emeka Okafor Topps Chrome Refractor Rookies beg to differ.

If those rookies don't pan out within 3-4 years, they will be in dollar bins (if that).

Bingo. Maybe you can get a great profit now and if so, go for it. But don't expect 7-10 rookies to all be successful/good players in 3-4 years. There's always another incoming Rookie Class that further pushes the previous class down.

Here's the thing about rookies. If they don't turn into all-star and really HOF level players, their cards won't be worth diddly poo in 10 years. Remember Steve Francis? He was co-roy and 3x all-star and his spx rc auto is worth about $50 now. I know because I pulled one 20 years ago and could have sold it for $800 at the time. I still have it and keep it as a reminder to sell some stuff.

That story could also go the other way. Many of us know from selling Giannis rookies for pennies, you never know what could turn out, that's why people play the lotto, the chances of winning are low but you never know, it's the mystery that people are paying for, the potential, in hindsight it's easy to say a lot of stuff but at the moment nobody knows the future of all these players.

Imagine the hobby where only MJ and LeBron had value. The interest in short-term gains far outweighs long term gains in the current state of the hobby. People want to watch their player that they’ve put money into. The entertainment of putting $50 into a Kevin Porter Jr silver trumps buying a Wade chrome refractor for 5k. Probably not for the collectors here but definitely for the general public.

This seems to be more about the prospect of the product than the player. Particularly the echo chamber of grading as a way to amplify profit. Very few players will reach the point where it’s worth it and if it’s past 3 years it’s probably a wishing well you’re tossing your money into.

The normalization of prices is already occurring. What would have been a "good deal" a few months ago no longer is. The upcoming draft class, election, and numerous other factors should also further normalize prices.

The market is low across the board right now because we are in the off-season. Don’t worry, a lot of worthwhile youngsters are going to see bumps as people start hedging their bets for next season.

There’s a couple that are easy pick ups for me with their potential vs cost comparison, but I’m not throwing hundreds of dollars at guys that haven’t proven anything.
