Default I think the market has leveled out and may be on it's way back up soon....

Been watching Zion and Ja cards and they seemed to have leveled off. With the NBA looking to start a 72 game season before XMAS and camps to open on 12/1.... I think the short downturn on some cards may be over. This of course is contingent to COVID not continuing to spread more quickly.... and that is the big question....

Clarity on the start of the season has certainly helped. Hard to predict. COVID shutdowns last time was actually a boon for prices.

Cards that I was watching never saw a dip but I know there are countless examples here that did. I really do believe we are on the cusp of a complete basketball market explosion. We saw a lot of basketball money go into football that was most likely lost due to lack of market knowledge. Basketball is where a lot of new guys made a lot of money and now will be coming back in full force. Just my 2 cents.

Wax is definitely back on the rise. 19-20 Prizm almost back to peak levels. Hopefully it doesn’t come to this but don’t count on another surge due to covid. The novelty of being stuck in yr house not working has worn off and the harsh economic reality may soon be upon us.

I see the same resellers with tons of contenders draft basketball. Good luck with that and prizm draft lol. This week, I witnessed something weird. People actually buying contenders and pokemon. Since there's a limit at my target, the people were leaving the football mosaic for contenders and pokemon(obviously super hot right now, so it's not a bad trade I guess), but it was weird to witness lol. I started to laugh inside and didnt stop them of course lol

What's up with the racist post?

Should not be acceptable on this forum.

yup. I sell most things as BIN OBO. as soon as prices start turning and the cheap supply dries up, I start getting all kinds of offers and messages trying to lock in yesterday's prices.

Some big YouTuber made a box opening video of a $250,000 1st edition Pokémon box a month or two ago and it sent people into a frenzy. It used to be a kids thing but these days Pokémon seem to be making people grown man money. I wholeheartedly endorse the Pokémon craze and hope it only grows, if the flippers are focused on Pokémon maybe I’ll finally realize my dream of encountering a mega box in the wild. My only target is 40 mins away and I happened to be there yesterday alone in the card aisle when the excel rep came up with a whole cart full of boxes and said “it’s your lucky day, pick through these boxes and take what you want.” I got so excited as he opened the boxes and I went through them to find.....the massive letdown of a bunch of contenders blasters, topps factory sets, my little pony cards, and Pokémon cards (not even the cool kind of Pokémon). First time I’ve ever been lucky enough to run into a vendor and it was fools gold lol

i think it was a few things, market exhaustion from releases and price gauging, literally a zion or ja in every pack pretty much, ROI fell off a cliff, over-production, people burnt on $ spiral up, lack of knowledge, new sports kicking off, key people dropping out of playoffs, 'rona, ridic low ratings etc etc

Historically, prices start declining during playoffs (with the exception of those who perform in playoffs and play for teams that continue advancing) and through most of the offseason. Then, prices start picking back up as the next season approaches.

It's just like clockwork.

Always, there's much more movement during the season that you are left twiddling your thumbs in the offseason, it's night and day.

I have seen a bit of an uptick recently though.

I think quarantine exhaustion makes people want to escape more as well which the sports cards help with. Collecting, organizing, trading, searching for new cards etc give people more to do. It's a safe hobby that you can enjoy from home and right now we are all dealing with the home side of things.

The problem is it stopped being a hobby and started becoming a quasi stock-market.

My eBay sales took a little dip about a month and a half ago, but things have picked up the past week or two. With the draft in two weeks and then training camp starting up shortly after that I can see thing heating up very quickly.
I tried to pick up a few cards for my PC when I could snag them for a good price but if there was a drop it was small and didn't last long.
Can't wait to watch basketball again!

Iverson Chrome PSA 10 is still selling for a G (just to pick a totally random card)

I’m very OK if that’s the new normal... even if it was $1,500 a few months ago

I think I might have paid $125 for mine? I know it was just over $100

Yeah I'm hoping the market picks back up soon. I got some Facebook shares I'm happy with and some Tilray looks a good buy.

Oh, wrong forum, what market are we discussing?

First Hobby Boom Recipe:
1. Everyone is at home cause of the Pandemic
2. PPP Loans, Unemployment, and Stimulus 1
3. Tax Returns
4. Influencers

Second Hobby Boom Recipe:
1. A full Winter with the pandemic and Flu Season, guessing people will start staying home again
2. Once Elections are completely over, hopefully there is a Stimulus 2 Package
3. Tax Returns
4. More Mainstream Media coverage on the hobby
5. An actual NBA Season, don't forget we have never had the Hobby booming during a regular season where we have a game everyday, and if it overlaps with Summer Olympics then there maybe a possibility that players that normally don't get media coverage will suddenly get some because the A-level players will be playing in the playoffs.

Just my humble opinion. Thanks for reading...

Is there a good up to date and free site that tracks sport cards' indexes over time? I know there are some pay sites, but other than that any good resources?

I think next is the sucker's rally while the smart money heads for the exits.

Look at all the sucker's who got caught wildly overpaying for near-worthless base cards.
