Any specific cards considered the holy grail of the marvel collecting world?
I started buying marvel a few years back but have only been buying what has been eye appealing to me. Any particular card or set considered the grail of marvel collecting? |

I'm pretty sure the 1996 Marvel Masterpieces set is still one of the rarest and most valuable sets from the 90's.

Limited to a possible 25 created, this one took a lot of effort and money in order to earn through the ePack achievements.
![]() 2018 Upper Deck Avengers Infinity War - MCU Marathon Infinity Gauntlet Relic Achievements #IGL - Infinity Gauntlet 5 x 7 Courtesy of COMC.com Other recent ones people like: 2017 Spider-Man EX Century Then (and Now); the 1/1 Spider-Man sold for $1650. https://www.comc.com/Cards,sq,=spide...entury,ot,i100 Autographed cards from the MCU movie sets are really popular. There are still a lot of early sketch cards that go for serious coin. |

Satan asking about Holy Grails seems peculiar.

Jusko did a handful of sketch cards for 2016 MM and Premier. That’s about as sought after as it gets in the Marvel card world!
Also, didn’t Stan Lee and a few legendary artists like John Romita do sketches for early Spider Man sets? |

Not Marvel but I've always wondered if anyone ever pulled the "One Ring" 24K gold 1/1 from Hobbit: Unexpected Journey

I pulled a jusko sketch out of marvel gems the other day. Fantastic card. I posted it in the break section.

Sweet. I'm only missing two of the chase cards and I'll be done with the set.

I don't think that exists either. The only Marvel set from that time period in which the checklist had a parallel was the 94 Masterpieces. At least to my knowledge. |

The Thanos 5x7" Gauntlet was a tough one for sure. I don't think all 25 will see the light of day as collectors moved a handful of stones off site before redeeming.
Nice auto! I'd imagine RDJ is the 'current' holy grail for MCU. This might change in 5-10 years as MCU continues to evolve. Also, I think the answer will be different for each person. I recently was asking some non-collectors who they would like for autographs from the MCU. The answers were roughly in this order: Thor(Hemsworth), Loki(Hiddleston), Thanos(Brolin), Rocket(Cooper, but hasn't even signed), ... and think eventually Ironman(RDJ) and Captain America(Evans) landed in top 10. It was an interesting conversation as they had zero insight into value or who has/hasn't signed. When I told them Hemsworth could be obtained for 200-300'ish but RDJ was 2-3000+ I got a lot of faces. However, since this is a community of collectors, I'd go RDJ.RDJ isn't the rarest though. I think there are some other rare MCU cards outside of the obvious printing plates /1. I've only been collecting a couple years and there are few cards I cannot even find images for online example: DMA-DH Jeremy Renner, Chris Hemsworth from Age of Ultron. Also, how about MCU comic covers autos with Stan Lee autos? Staying with marvel movies... you can look to sets before MCU too. Again, Stan Lee comes to mind. The most exciting hobby box pull I think I ever had was a Spider-man 3 Stan Lee auto(not rare though) this year during COVID . Ryan reynolds and Hugh jackman also come to me as Marvel signers who will stand the test of time.I'm mainly a MCU set collector, but I think I saw some cool Stan Lee sketch(really a doodle)/auto's from Rittenhouse I'd imagine could be argued as the 'holy grail'. I'd like to hear more what people think the 'holy grail' is for Marvel comic/non-MCU and/or what cards people think can challenge RDJ on MCU/movie side. |

I agree with what has already been posted. . .
The likely grail for comic collectors is the Stan Lee Marvel Silver Age sketch card of Spider-man. For MCU it is likely Downey. Since Ironman really kicked off the MCU I think Downey's Iron Man autos will always be solid. There are some other really tough Marvel autos -- some have been described, but Glenn Close and Chris Pratt from the first Guardians set only signed for one set. . . |

For me it's pairing a 2016 Marvel Masterpiece Jean Grey What If? Jusko auto with my base auto. The what if? doesn't surface very often, but when it does they aren't cheap.

Thank you! Feel free to grab a screen shot of it if you wish because, for some reason I can't figure out, when I leave Blowout the image leaves with me. Like I said, wonky...
I'll stay connected for a while. |
