Does eBay back sellers for USPS lost packages that show tracking?

Have had a few issues with USPS lately where package is scanned in at my local PO than tracking updates at the next facility than tracking says usps awaits item. This has happened three times (twice package arrived). Also have another package just lost and in transit, arriving late.

Will ebay eat the refund in these cases as I shipped day after or day of payment (which can be seen in tracking) or am I out of luck? I have two cases opened (buyer paid and I shipped and can be tracked) and am curious of eBay has helped anyone that can show item has shipped and in possession of USPS. If you were helped whom have you spoken with or emailed? I have not been able to get anyone on the phone.

Sometimes they will cover it but are not obligated to do so. It is the sellers responsibility to get the item to the buyer.

Right now the USPS is seeming to be hitting another speed bump we are also seeing other carriers limiting retailers ont he amount of stuff they can see. People need to be expecting huge delays this season. Looks like Dec 1st was a huge issue for them. Looking back that is the date I have huge numbers that have not updated since the 2nd. Sadly Tuesdays are my biggest shipping days on average.

Thanks. Figured as much, not much changed as in the past they have covered it for me sometimes and sometimes have not when in USPS system. I have had more issues or buyers messaging about packages that are tracked than PWE sales lately.

Smaller items that I have sent First Class like PWEs seem to be doing okay. Regular First Class mail doesn't seem to be affected much right now. Anything larger than that has stopped completely.
EBay was pretty good the last time, July-September, about covering just about anything I had actual tracking on.

How long has it been? Post office is very much behind right now due to covid and the holidays.

Over the summer I bought a card on Ebay that disappeared for over a month. The seller had high feedback and was very communicative so I trusted him and stayed patient. It eventually popped back up on tracking and was delivered just fine.

If you end up refunding and it later shows up as delivered, eBay has helped me in the past

Have buyer open case. Add Tracking and refund through there

Also. I hate to double post. But this is actually the reason I came to this thread.

I'm dealing with something similar right now. Something was supposed to arrive Saturday but it hasn't arrived yet. Tracking says "In transit. Arriving Late." The buyer opened a case and is actively harassing me through messages.

I went on the USPS website and did a package intercept. Barring a mistake, USPS is gonna intercept the package and send it back to me. Then I can refund him and keep my item.

Might be worth trying if you're worried about refunding only for them to get the item and refuse to pay.

label printed, pkg accepted, departs PO then new label? and USPS awaiting shipment. Im gonna give it another day or 2 before I message the seller asking if he voided the 1st one and re-did a new label, I doubt it.

I've had 4 eBay sales go missing from shipments in early October.

On two of them, I entered in the missing mail research request and those are still in process - was told they could take up to 6 months. On one of those, I already refunded the buyer and also submitted a package intercept with USPS so that the package would be returned to me if ever found. The other is still in the initial research stage, but I assume i'll be in the same situation. On this one, maybe I shouldn't rush to refund and just see what eBay rules on the case?

If eBay covers the refund to the buyer, then I may reach out to them about the first one that I already refunded.

The other two have had similar steps taken by the buyer. I'm just waiting to hear something, if I ever do...

I just had one that did this and just received it. I'm wondering if it's a system reset to keep the label valid (IIRC they only "last" a few days)

I have 15 FC 6x9 envelopes and boxes sent out last Tuesday all of them except one show the last scan at 318Am on the 2nd.

As long as you shipped in your stated handling time you are generally safer than if you were a day late or something. Ebay will remove negs if you shipped on time for slow or no delivery they will also usually delay the resolution of the case being closed for the buyer.

THis is exactly what I am dealing with. It was scanned at my local PO on Nov 24th, at the sort facility by me scanned on the 25th than on the 29th I had the same exact Pre-Shipment......

Based on so many having this issue, it's safe to say it's a glitch on the post office's end, and not due to something the seller did.

I've dropped packages before (more than once) and they got scanned "delivered" instead of "accepted" and they all still arrived to their destinations just fine.

Delays this time of year are always long, this year will likely be even worse due to Covid.
