Default Will Cody Bellinger surpass Mike Trout?

I think the only thing hurting him is his low batting average, everything else he's on par with Trout. Heck he even has a world series ring, something trout might never get a sniff of.

There was a huge discussion on this subject, I think it was the Bellinger threat.

Mookie is probably the only player that has really been close to Trout's numbers since he's been in the league.

Bellinger is so far behind Trout he can't even see him anymore.

I think a better comparison might be Cody Bellinger / Ken Griffey Jr. but with WS rings. Amazing talent, arguably generational, but not Mike Trout (nobody is).

The Trout fanboys want to scoff at this discussion but I don't think it's crazy. I agree that Mookie is closer, but Bellinger has a decent shot too in my opinion. Trout doesn't seem to want any part of the spot light, has had very little team success, and you never know what could happen with injuries.

The only time Bellinger is (sur) passes Trout is on the 405, I-5, Freeway.

Point 1- so what
Point 2 - team sport / not his fault or doing
Point 3 - applies to all players

Cody Bellinger has hit over 97 RBI’s once in his career..

Has hit over .267 BA once in his career..

Has had an OBP over .352 once in his career..

Has had a SLG over .581 once in his career..

Has had a OPS over .933 once in his career..

In my opinion, Cody Bellinger is not on par with Trout..

Cody Bellinger’s first full year was age 21, Trout had played 179 games at age 19/20. So right off the bat Trout already has a head start on counting stats. So advantage Trout...

If we analyze just the first 3-1/2 years for both players it’s true that Bellinger matches/exceeds Trout in HR/RBI/SLG, but Trout is far and away the leader in R/SB/AVG/OBP and Defense (Bellinger isn’t that far off on D, but Trouts first few years were heads and shoulders above him)... so again advantage Trout

Don’t get me wrong, Bellinger can put up some great #’s, but can he put up over 9 WAR for the next 5 seasons and that would just keep him on par or slightly behind Trout. I say it’s extremely doubtful... again advantage Trout

I think Bellinger can be stud, and maybe Trout slows down at age 30 and his Defense and SB deteriorate and eat into his WAR and counting stats as he get older, and Bellinger ages like a fine wine like Ortiz or Cruz, but Trout has already done so much it’ll be difficult.

It doesn't have anything to do with being a fanboy. Bellinger has had one MVP-level season out of four. The idea of him SURPASSING Trout is insane at the moment.

Could he rattle off 4 more seasons like 2019 and get into the conversation? It's possible, but his history doesn't show a lot of consistency from one year to the next.

Dodger fan here....

Nope

But he will have 3 more rings on his hand.

Seriously....the Angels won't win a WS in the next 20 years so there's that.

That's a little fetched...Belli obviously better and will be better than Acuna & Freeman. Maybe not Soto but defiantly anyone on the Brave's.

Well, that and World Series rings.

But, I have no belief Bellinger passes Trout in much else as much as I would personally love to seem him surpass him in a number of things.

I came in here to defend the Bellinger side, mostly because while Trout has been nothing but AMAZING, I dont expect him to land in my Top 3 when its all done. Bonds (steroids or not, I personally dont care. Let the league use em), Griffey (This is where I expect Trout to finish when his career is done. I expect injuries to slow him down considerably), Arod (Hate him, but Numbers are Numbers, again, PEDs dont bug me at all).

But, Bellinger isnt even close to Trouts early success. And Trout ran away after the early success.
Roughly Through age 24
Hits 494/840
Runs 325/600
RBI 318/497
SB 45/143
HR 123/168
AVG 273/317
OBP 364/412
SLG 547/560

Bellinger isnt close. Yes, he has a Ring, MVP and ROY. But its not close. Cody could go 310/440/45HR/110RBI/110Runs/20SB MVP World Series Ring, and still be a mile behind Trouts pace. Hell, he would still be a year behind Trouts Pace by age/numbers with that season.
