Default Breakdown of every NFL QB by total # of rookie-year cards

Based on Beckett's database and the most recent practice squad rosters that the first page of Google gave me. Here is (roughly) every quarterback that is "in the league" by their total number of different rookie-year cards.

The key here is that this includes every variation, parallel, and printing plate. Trying to search for "true" rookie cards through Beckett with "player name + RC" was giving me funny results, so I've gone with the full total of rookie-year cards.

2971 - Kyler Murray, 2019 (Cardinals - Starter)
2903 - Dwayne Haskins, 2019 (Football Team)
2824 - Joe Burrow, 2020 (Bengals - Starter)

As a team collector I've seen the ups and downs over the years of "true" RCs made for each player. Draft position matters and position on the field, matters, obviously but it does not surprise me we have been building to this.

I think what were seeing here in your numbers is the massive uptick in parallels, yes? It's gotten endless.

Yes. Champ Bailey was included in the 2020 Prizm release, and he has 42 different cards in the set. 42....

Couple that with a rookie, over the course of all the products, and it's a nightmare to player/team collect everything now. I don't know how people even fathom of it in today's world.

Champ has roughly, 2,300 total cards produced, and you have players with rookie cards exceeding that alone. lmao.

Interesting how production was pretty even from 2014-2017, then started seeing an uptick in 2018 onwards.

We're going to see our next big jump in HOF QB rookie cards when Manning goes in with the next class.

At present, almost every HOF QB has 1-3 rookie cards. Two of the most recent inductees gave us our first big jump: Brett Favre with 30 cards in 1991 and Kurt Warner with 90 in 1999.

When Manning is inducted, he'll bring 518 rookie cards from 1998 with him.

Only reason you did this list? To get Josh Rosen toward the top of one QB list.

Once Manning is inducted, his 518 rookie cards will likely remain the high-water mark for at least a decade.

Unless his brother Eli is somehow inducted in his first years of eligibility (he's got roughly 600 rookie-year cards), all of the other potential HOFers have fewer than Peyton's 518:

Brady - 138
Brees - 365
Rivers - 487
Roethlisberger - 487

Even Aaron Rodgers only has 459.

After those guys, the next wave of potential HOF QBs won't be for many years and it will likely give us the next jump:

Ryan - 1555
Newton - 1429
Wilson - 1157

We're looking at another 10-20 years before we see our first 2,000+ rookie card QB inducted.

Just more fuel to fire that we are in the new era of overproduced cards. Any guesses what the final total will be for Herbert Burrow and Tua? Do we see 4k before end of season?

This list reminded me we missed out on preseason. Sloter and Sudfeld co-MVPs next year.

That's a funny way to spell Chad "Swag" Kelly.

And yet we continue to see demand for 2012-2020 RC QB cards that drive prices where supply dictates premiums for guys like TB ... don't post in this thread too much or the bubble bursts before most of us are done liquidating.

If I thought my threads had the ability to influence the hobby broadly I wouldn't make so many Rosen jokes.

*stares at stack of Rosen Contenders autos*

That said, if I could say anything to the hobby/league I'd probably ask how the heck Davis Webb hasn't gotten a serious crack at a starting job?

He almost beat out Baker Mayfield as a freshman at Texas Tech and only lost his starting job because he missed a few games with an injury and his backup happened to be named Patrick Mahomes.

So he transfers to Cal and gets drafted by the Giants only to have the team overhaul its coaching staff and decide to let go a bunch of guys brought in under the old regime.

But this is a guy who all his teammates said has the "it" factor and who was stepping up even this spring to organize team workouts when the franchise couldn't due to the league's COVID restrictions.

I know opportunities are scarce in the league, but Webb might have the most talent and leadership of any non-starter in the league.

One seller on Ebay has 7 - 1/1 Herbert rookie shields for sale as a lot, asking 700K.

How could one person obtain 7 1/1 rc shields??
Probably gonna get half million for a guy who has won 3 career games. Seems a little nuts.

Funny thing is that 7 shields is still probably only 1/10th of the 1/1 shields made this year for Herbert. He could go on to win 6 SBs and their still won't be enough demand to keep those over 100k per.

Does Panini just make a scarf of an "NFL Shield" pattern and then just cut it into 70 pieces so they are all "player worn"? No way he wore 70 different full jerseys. Maybe he did?

They've tightened up the production spreads from #1 overall to lower 1st Rd picks as well ... A Smith was ~60% more than A Rodgers, Mayfield 50% more than Lamar, while Burrow is only 40% more than Love.

Cool list, thanks for putting together. Honestly, if I'm in the gambling business, I'm looking at QBs like John Wolford and PJ Walker who are apparently loved by their organizations and have a history of balling out in other leagues.

Or Taysom Hill. His cards aren't super cheap, but he's being groomed to start for the Saints and he only has 9 total RCs.

Does Panini just make a scarf of an "NFL Shield" pattern and then just cut it into 70 pieces so they are all "player worn"? No way he wore 70 different full jerseys. Maybe he did?
that 1 guy has 7, meanwhile there are also I think 10 other Herbert's on ebay that have Shields in them. 17 NFL Shield cards for Herbert listed on ebay.
