Default Anyone Else A Fan of 1992 Fleer Ultra?

I found a bunch of these cards in binders in my collection, and I have to say I love the cards and the design. The 92 Fleer Ultra seems like a nice blend of old and new for me in terms of the look and the design. Anyone else like these cards?

Those were the expensive packs when I was a kid! I LOVED them! I need to find a box of them to break!

Problem isn't finding them...it's finding a box that isn't bricked. I've thought about picking up a few PSA 10s from the set but then decided against it.

These cards were great. This and Stadium Club was the premium stuff when I was a kid. I miss those simpler collecting days...

Haha. Yeah, these cards tend to stick if stacked. Fortunately, the cards I have from this set are in good shape, and I am actually thinking about sending some of them in for grading. They are beautiful cards.

Oh yeah, super popular set back in the day. 1991 was the year Topps and Fleer moved into the "premium" card market but Ultra was dragged as dull and generally un-premium compared to the super bright Stadium Club photos and rookie-heavy Leaf. The general consensus was that the coloful backs with their 3-photo backs (touted as a major selling point in the ads) were better than the front. So they came back strong with the 1992 design. The inserts also popped.

This popularity carried over into the other sports and ran headfirst into Shaq-mania, making his Ultra cards $50 a pop right out of the pack. Who can resist?

For sure it was high end for 1992. I agree the all-stars inserts with their black marble borders were awesome and still some of my favorites, they just exhumed classy

'92 Ultra and '92 Stadium Club cards felt like new money. They were so "high end" when compared to the paper cards. But they were "so expensive" when compared, too. But I'll never forget what the '92 Ultra Griffey Jr #123 looked like. Beautiful card!

This was the first full box I ever got. I remember getting it for Christmas and the box was loaded with the All-Star inserts. I forget what the odds were, but I doubled what it was supposed to get. I also remember being pumped about getting a Pat Listach Rc. I always meant to finish that set. Now I've got some cheap cards to go look for on the bay.

The Frank Thomas card from that set is one of my favourites.

That is indeed a beautiful card. As is the Frank Thomas. I’m so happy I found these.

Loved '92 Ultra. Enough I picked up some boxes a few years back.

Now they're the base of my retaining wall.

Yes! I loved the base set, but the all star cards were something special. I remember pulling the Frank Thomas back then, and it was like a $20 card at the time. Best card I pulled in the early 90s. I ending up buying the complete set about 15 years ago for like 10 bucks at a garage sale. One of my favorite instead sets of all time.

Yep Fleer Ultra was awesome..cards felt special at the time because of their finish. For me, On the Basketball side, finding 92-93 Series 2 Ultra Basketball at retail was the equivalent of finding Prizm Basketball today. I remember FINALLY finding a few packs at an out of town WM..no Shaq though

Fronts and backs are works of art. Funny you mention the smell. I can smell them too.

The Fleer baseball logo fit really well with these cards.

This. But when those came out it actually felt complicated at the time. The real simpler days were like.... 84 - 91.
