Default Over/Under 10K Russell Wilson Card?

Russell Wilson 2012 Topps Chrome RC Refractor PSA 10

Over/Under $10K dollar card?

- POP 18 (on a nearly impossible centering grade).

- The only one up on eBay is listed at 20K with best offer available.

- I know Russ and the hawks let down in the post-season, but overall he did have a solid season: Threw for 40+ Touchdowns, 4200 yards, 500+ Rushing yards and 2 TDs, got 12 wins and the NFC West Divisional title.

- As of now, Russ is no Brady, Mahomes, or even Rodgers within the Market.... Russ is proven, and is a first-ballot hall of famer no doubt, but he still has a lot more left to prove if he wants to be considered a top 5 QB of all time.

-From a pure investment standpoint, what would you be willing to pay for this card right now, what do you think it is worth right now, and what do you think it could be worth down the road (assuming he puts together another 4-5 solid seasons and maybe wins an MVP or another SB?)

Disclaimer: Yes I do own one of these cards, but mine is not listed... Also, I have no intentions of listing or selling mine right now, so thats why I am posting this thread to see what everyones thoughts are.

I would say yes. I would be surprised if it didn't clear 10k.

Honestly, I think it is but not right now. I think right now is the worst possible time to sell any high end Wilson. The optics on the Seahawks are incredibly poor. If you are a Wilson truther, I think this off season is a huge buying opportunity. Not as low as the previous two seasons but still way too affordable for the quality of QB he is.

Agree with just about everything here... I think any Russ Wilson Topps Chrome base 10 under 1K are a steal long term....

Unfortunately, I am forced to sell a couple right now to pay for school.

but I am 100% gonna be diving back into buying some Russ stuff in a few months during the off-season.

I agree with Glebe. It may be a 10k+ card down the line, and sure, RW3 had a good statistical year, but the optics right now could not be worse. They just fired their OC because he wanted to let Russ "cook" and it didn't work out. I could actually envision a scenario where RW3 gets traded at this point. Unless they fire Carroll (and they should), the Seahawks will be a run-first team again. That has to devastate Russ.

And if he does, he will likely be worthy. But if he chucked up the deuces today and moved to the Caribbean with Ciara, he doesn't go into the Hall in five years.

i dont think there is actually anything he can to ever get in that tier...he will never surpass Brady, Peyton, Brees, Montana and whoever else you want to put in top 5...Rodgers maybe??

He will never have the accolades of Brady/Montana...the Hardware/Stats of Peyton...the stats/longevity of Brees...the talent of Rodgers...

that is just top 5...there a lot of QBs he would have to keep up his career for like 10 more years to get past....Top 10 is probably a big longshot as well...

to me-top 5 is a "never gonna happen"

Russell Wilson is a lot closer to Ben Roethlisburger than any of those mentioned. Don't forget the like of Unitas, Elway, Marino, or even Starr. That's four + the five you mentioned. Nearly a top ten without digging too deep.

Edit: Geez can't forget about Favre. That is ten.

I actually really do like RW3, but this is the correct answer. He can get there, but it'll be close. His one "accolade" is his Super Bowl ring where a defensive player won the SB MVP and the team won 43-8. He's also never been All-Pro 1st and 2nd team once (2019), and has not received an MVP vote. Those are the facts. He probably needs 6 more years of stats similar to this year's and he'll get into the HOF in the same manner as Rivers will - stats alone.

Top 5 all-time is fantasy-land.

so you don't have Russell Wilson in the Hall of fame if he hung up the cleats for good tomorrow, or you just wouldn't have him as a first ballot hall of famer if he retired tomorrow?

Didn't he just sign for 5 more years? I get he is popular, but it's like 1 playoff wins in forever many years. With a stud qb. His best years are definitely behind him I think.

According to Pro Football Reference's Hall of Fame Monitor, he's ranked 25th all time, not a bad spot at all. 7th among active players. This metric measures statistics, awards, championships, etc. Not a guarantee of who's getting in, but a good barometer. So with that information, I'd say he for sure isn't a first ballot today, maybe 3rd-ish. There's gonna be a logjam at QB soon with Eli, Rivers, Brees, Ben, and Brady all done or retiring in the next year or two (come on Brady doesn't have more than that does he?!). If, and it's a big if, he can continue his current pace for 3 years then not rapidly decline so he can pad some end of career stats, he might can get in on first ballot depending on who hasn't gotten in and who he's eligible with.

Maybe you should check those facts again 😀

Wait - are we talking about Russell Wilson? I'd love to contribute to this conversation.

I kid. Carry on.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/2012-Topps-...EAAOSwHRJgAj4r

this should be real interesting.

gut feeling is it's gonna be really close to 10k but fall short.... We'll see though....

I'm just teasing.

But for this particular card, I honestly think it has a current value of about $3500k and that might be pushing it, but who knows, they have a low pop and someone might want it bad enough. A BGS 9.5 sold for $1375 in early November when Russ was cooking and his prices are much less now. Also consider a PSA 10 has a 2.5-3x multiplier usually.

Like others have said, now is the worst time to sell RW3. I think he is an elite QB, but his accolades are seriously lacking with only one second team all pro that stands out (besides the ring/pro bowls). If you consider he's 32 years old and there are a lot of talented QBs, will he earn any more all pro selections or win an MVP award? If he doesn't, he will likely have hobby love similar to Big Ben. Hobby love is hard to attain if you don't have multiple first team all pros/mvps/multiple rings. I mentioned Big Ben because he has multiple rings and very little else in terms of accolades, which is similar to what Russ has done to this point (of course Ben started eight years before Russ).

Overall, I think the main thing that is gonna hold his value down is the lack of first team all pros/mvps. If he can win an MVP in the next few years or so, it would cement his legacy.
