Quick backstory. I remember opening up a box of 99-00 Fleer Mystique around 15 years ago when I was a kid and pulling a Kobe Bryant numbered insert (I think from one of the cards where you pulled back the stickers coating the card). Back then, unless I pulled some auto or jersey card, I probably just put any inserts back in the box I opened along with all the base cards and put the opened box in a storage bin in the basement.
Fast forward several years when I'm in college and starting to get back into the hobby again. I notice that 90's insert cards begin to take off. I remembered thinking that I pulled a Kobe Bryant numbered insert from Fleer Mystique and thinking it was the Raise the Roof card. I even posted a thread back then asking what the value of the card was since I thought I would easily find it when I returned home but unfortunately I never was able to. When home on break, I would go thru my storage bins for the open Fleer Mystique box and it wasn't in there. I went thru my 3 ring binders to see if I had put it in there but would see a card like a Fleer Ultra Air Club For Men and wonder if my memory was off and I really never pulled the Raise the Roof. Fast forward nine years later to today. I had long ago chalked it up that I either lost the card in one of the many times I had moved since pulling it or I never actually pulled the card. I decided to go thru a storage bin today of my old opened boxes to see if I happened to leave any Lebron RC's in one of the 3 boxes I opened that year. No Lebron's as expected. I then started to go thru some of my baseball opened boxes just for fun and came across a 2004 Upper Deck Baseball Box. I removed the lid and the first card staring at me is the Kobe Bryant 99-00 Mystique Raise the Roof /100. I couldn't believe it. I have no idea how or why it ended up in an Upper Deck baseball box but am just glad to have found it and prove to myself I wasn't crazy all these years. I, like many of you, am always amazed and skeptical every time someone posts about the hundreds or thousands of dollars in cards they happened to find digging thru storage boxes but today it just so happened to be me. I put it in a mag and snapped a quick picture against the infamous Mystique box I had looked several times thru to no avail. Not sure what my plans are for the card at this time. Going to appreciate it for now, but would certainly appreciate any input on what the current value is if I decide to part with it ![]() |

What a find, congrats! With the price of the 90s serial #d Kobe/Jordans going thru the roof, you should be able to sell for quite a bit. Would consider grading before selling though. Looks like a raw copy sold for 9k last June. Prices only gone up since then.

The surface is what kills the grade on these. That damn peel messes with it. I pulled a KG a few years ago and wound up with a black blotch on the back because of the peel. Think a lot have some light scratches as well.
Send that to PSA immediately. If you get a 9, it's gotta be at least $20K by now. They almost never pop up. Even an 8 would have to be $10-15K. |
