Default Question: Real Han Solo Rookie Card?

I have question of which card is the true Han Solo rookie card. I wanted to pickup his true rookie card, but I can't quite determine that on ebay.

I think there are 3 options:
1. 1977 Topps Han Solo #4 Blue - Space Pirate
2. 1977 Topps Han Solo #58 Blue - Harrison Ford
3. 1977 Wonder Bread Han Solo #4

1. 1977 Topps Han Solo #4 Blue - Space Pirate

2. 1977 Topps Han Solo #58 Blue - Harrison Ford

3. 1977 Wonder Bread Han Solo #4

All of them. Or none of them. Can’t decide.

I know the Wonder Bread came out in grocery shelves around late Aug/Sept.....so depends when Series 1 Topps hit.

Also on the Wonder Bread...yikes!! "In Star Wars: From Concept to Screen to Collectible, Steve Sansweet shares that “Star Wars trading cards were stuck in more than sixty-five million loaves of Wonder Bread.” "

Based on the pop report for the Wonder Bread for PSA, it's still very rare! Majority of them are thrown out in the 70's and very few have to be in PSA 9 or higher.

I am leaning towards the #2 Harrison Ford card, but the way Wonder Bread is going the last 2 months, it may be the Wonder Bread as the true rookie card? I hope others have insight on the rookie card to have.

I have zero clue. IMO...Im a fan of the "1st" 9 out of 10 times. With all of these on top of each other re: release date...I tend to lean to rarest or coolest. The Wonder Bread is the winner in my book. Something to be said about Star Wars, the Wonder Bread brand, etc.

For me its the Space Pirate. Wonderbread is an odd ball. Personally, I don't like studio shots, so I prefer Space Pirate. Some may argue that the other blue says HFs name, so that makes it HIS card, but, again, I hate it, so I disagree.

A premium is usually placed on lowest numbered card of person, all alone in pic, in a series as their "rookie"...so that would make 1977 Topps Star Wars #4 Space Pirate Han Solo as the rookie.

The Wonder Bread would be considered an "alternative" set as it was a one-off by a non-card based division or company and thus, not his rookie card BUT his "1st Appearance" card if published before Series 1...if after Series 1, no question it is a cool alt set only card

Now given the above.....an interesting one is Boba Fett's rookie......what is it? Market is seeming to dictate it is his 1980 Topps ESB Series 1 Star File card, which is a parallel in the set....it is card #11 and he is alone in the picture with his name. Soooo that is the on

Ya, think the 1980 Topps Star File Boba Fett one is easy to catch as the rookie card.

IMO Wonder Bread and #58 are 100x better looking images than Space Pirate. I think they all could be considered his "rookies" but I personally lean towards the other two over Space Pirate.

It's akin to Darth Vader's rookie. Series 1 #7 is the "rookie" but Wonder Bread, #196, ,#217, #183, etc. are such better looking cards. In fact, I think #196 is the coolest card in all over Star Wars from 1977-present.

I wish we would all go towards "First Appearance" designations for non-sports cards....that way you could have the overall "First Appearance" in Wonder Bread and then the "Topps First Appearance" in Series 1 for instance

Not perfect but best I could see

I like First Appearance myself but that's seemingly reserved for comics. Then again, the term Rookie is reserved for sports cards.

As for Harrison Ford, I like the #58 Blue

Harrison Ford as Han Solo ... the actor as character card, to me, is the "main" card.

However, any appearances in set would get a RC tag these days.

Baseball uses both RC and 1st Card (Bowman)

As I stated, they don't use "First Appearance". The Card Hobby does use "XRC". That was used for early Topps Traded and Fleer Update set. "1st Bowman" is what Topps uses so you wont see it for Panini, Donruss, Fleer, etc.

The term rookie card makes no sense at all for entertainment cards.

Relax, it's a loose term to describe the earliest card to have based on market. You can call it whatever you like, as long as you get the idea.

Right, except that it makes no sense. See previous discussions on blowout on the topic.

I think the 2nd one (#58) is the most iconic and recognizable card, but the Wonder Bread is the coolest to me and is also the most rare of the 3.
I don't think there will be a consensus, because most people don't think of it as a rookie card.

Same - the vertical orientation also matches with Luka and Leia from this set.
