Just announced on CNBC, Topps is going public via a SPAC. Should mean even bigger print runs/higher prices to maximize profits.

I feel like this is great news. Hopefully can increase their systems and controls to get compliant. Hint hint.. please fix your problems Topps.

Might as well cash in now. Long term I dont think this is good. They will have too much focus on quarterly profits and will probably eventually have all their assets sold off. The goal isnt making quality product (yes nothing new for topps) its maximizing return on the stock.

Are the shareholders going to rectify the etopps fiasco??? They are holding our cards hostage.

Only if it benefits the shareholders. The customers are just the means to make the shareholders money.

In all honesty Im not surprised. Has Topps done anything in the past 12 months to indicate that they care one bit about the "hobby"

Get ready for sky high print runs, and at least two more product releases a year.

I've worked for both mutual and public insurance companies and while the mutual is horribly inefficient they sort of do care about their policyholders once they get done caring about their agents. The public companies are all about returning capital first. Policyholders? What do they want now?

The fact they are doing it via a SPAC tells you everything you need to know: backward financials don’t look great... so they need it to be about the current performance and forward expectations that the market will be HOT forever!!! It’s different this time!!!

This is really bad news.
And topps is always two years behind. Going public at the peak then the bubble bursts with the strike/lockout next year? Who in their right mind would invest? |

This could mean great things for the hobby, or it could be bad.
On one hand, I'm hoping the need to drive profits somehow gets Topps back in the Football/Basketball game. |

I had a thought that maybe this means Topps could get back in the football, hockey, or even basketball game.
I wrote about it here: https://www.cardboardscene.com/topps...arket-growing/ Couldn't more money mean they can challenge Panini? This seems like a good thing. |

I think that this will be great for the hobby. It will be an excellent metric to show just how strong the industry is. Hopefully this will be similar to CLCT. Collectors threw their weight behind them (despite the terrible turnaround times) and that stock rose over 400% in less than a year.

Why don’t we just buy all the stock and run it BY COLLECTORS FOR COLLECTORS.
