Default Jesse Owens

Anybody around here collect his stuff. My pops used to talk about How great he was and how he single handily beat the Nazi’s In their own backyard. I was blown away that he ended up broke in the end. Anyways I started collecting some of his stuff and wondered if anyone else does also.

Beautiful stuff. I’ve been wanting one of the Ogden’s but just haven’t pulled the trigger on one. Great collection.

The country should have taken care of him for life after beating them like he did. He is an American Hero, but obviously the government didn't treat him as such. Amazing man with such a sad story due to the ignorance of America at that time in history.

His stuff has always been extremely undervalued.
Glad I picked this Ogden's up when I did - but given the way that the higher grades have exploded, I may have a hard time holding.

I used to have a great old 10x8 photo of Owens posing with some early Harlem Globetrotters, signed by Owens and Abe Saperstein. Wish I still had it.
Yeah Owens could have been a lot more bitter towards the way America treated him.
Hell even Hitler gave him a congratulatory wave, Owens once said
“Hitler didn’t snub me—it was [Roosevelt] who snubbed me. The president didn’t even send me a telegram.”
Roosevelt never publicly acknowledged Owens’s triumphs—or the triumphs of any of the 18 African Americans who competed at the Berlin Olympics. Only white Olympians were invited to the White House in 1936.

I found a complete Ogden's set for $75 at a flea market in London when i was there for the Yankees-Red Sox series in 2019. Got the Owens slabbed a PSA 7, sold it for like $175 last year and thought i was a genius lol. The price explosion on these cards is just nuts. to go from $175 to $5K in a year just doesn't seem possible

This thread made me wanna pick something up of Owens. This is in rough shape but still shocked you can get an 83 year old card of a legend like Owens for around $20.

I have a 1936 US Olympic Track and Field Try Outs Program that is signed by 52 athletes, including 18 that went on to the Olympics.

Ralph Metcalf, Cornelius Johnson... and Jesse Owens.
