Crazy that MJ had 6 season with over .800 and only won 5 MVPs.

Also, Harden being the 2nd active leader and Giannis leaping to 4th by the end of the season (being barely above 25) show how underrated they still are.

I like this metric. Thanks for doing this OP.

It reconfirms what many other metrics also show: MJ is 1A and LeBron is 1B.

This goes to MJ. MJ 6 Finals MVPs. MJ = GOAT
Supposing MJ played full seasons in '94-95, and supposing his Award Share for those seasons was the same as the two lowest shares from the surrounding 3-Peat runs. So .57 and .83 add up to 1.4. So if we hypothetically add that 1.4 to MJ's total for a top 12 seasons, we end up with 9.3 for a total. Bron would be adding around 2 seasons of .4 Award Share apiec, bringing his top-12-seasons total to 8.3. MJ GOAT

There's a reason why bringing up the discussion of MJ vs LeBron triggers so many people... and why the discussions of MJ vs Kobe, or vs Duncan, or vs whomever else rarely even get brought up.

What's nuts is imagine Giannis if he wins a title this year and try to make a case that he wouldn't already be top 20 all time if he did, based on anything other than him not having the career counting stats that comes simply from playing many years.

Great analysis! You can tell a lot about a players regular season dominance with this. I want to emphasis regular season though as playoffs is totally different for some players. Take my favorite player Dirk Nowitzki - he rarely dominates the ball during the season, preferred to get his teammates involved until he had to turn it on. So his peak regular reason numbers are pretty mediocre for an al time great. Even his nba championship year he only averaged 23 ppg inc. decreased minutes - but he always raised his level of urgency in the playoffs. Less kicking the ball out and more shot creation in the post. Less deferring to teammates to help build their confidence and more taking shots himself.

So it’s a great stat & analysis but can’t overlook that it’s regular season based.
