If we could hear Muhammad Ali now, he might be saying “I’m gonna float like a butterfly, sting like a bee … and ain’t nobody selling cards quite like me.”

The 69-year-old former world heavyweight boxing champ has fought Parkinson’s disease for years now, leaving him silent and more fragile than in his fighting years, but that didn’t stop him from signing a limited number of cards for the 2011 Leaf Muhammad Ali card set. A small number of those cards were cards that included a swatch from a pair of his fight-worn trunks and they’re raking in the bucks these days in online auctions.

How much?

The first to sell went for $1,400, while another went for $1,250. A third, which wasn’t a Best Offer, sold for $1,200 after 19 bids on eBay, where a few others are presently on pace to equal or potentially surpass these amounts.

During his recent Box Busters visit, Leaf’s Bryan Gray said his company has plenty more in store for Ali products in the future, including a Metal and a high-end Exquisite-style release. But for now, those who truly realize the magnitude of Muhammad in the sports landscape — both in the ring and socially; during and after his career — have no choice but to fight it out to own a piece of the man who is one of the biggest icons of all time.
