Default Tobacco card guidance

I'd like to start learning and collecting tobacco cards, I've been following prewar cards.com but also looking for any other suggestions or books that can help educate me and or just show me "what's out there". I like oddball sport and non-sport related items and figured this might be a fun time to start dabbling in it.

Has anyone use the American Card Catalog book by Burdick? Is that a good first start?

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

No. The ACC just has the basic designations and a simple description, nothing else. What you need is this:

Net54 also has a nonsports board you can click the icon on the top right of the page. And a link to Old Cardboard, which is also smart reading.
