If you had $7,000 to spend on an investment to hold onto for years down the road, what would you buy? It could be any sports.

There’s a lot of ways this cold go, and everyone is going to answer this based on the way they collect, so I’ll keep my answer based on modern singles because that’s my jam.
Baseball: the best Tatis or Acuña card I could get. Football: the best Mahomes or Brady card I could get. |

The best risk reward at the moment is probably Soto.
I'd probably aim for a PSA 10 Gatorade and maybe there's a little change left over for a PSA 10 rainbow foil or a Pink Refractor. |

S&P Index Fund.
I’m different than most and don’t consider cards much of an “investment grade” asset. If you were holding my feet to the fire, probably a Hank Aaron Rookie. Vintage and something I’ll appreciate regardless of its future value.

The best graded Jackie Robinson card that you can unambiguously prove has never been altered.

Choose a young player that you like to follow. Believe in personally. I think you’ll enjoy the ride much more than just picking players other people enjoy
![]() You might also like to split that $7k between a few players (maybe on your favorite team???) Like, I’m a Red Sox fan. For $7k I could get a highly sought after very low print run (or 1/1) RC for each of the team’s top stats: Devers, Xander, JD, Verdugo, and Dalbac and probably still have a ton of $$ left over. Statistically speaking, one is probably going to be a HOF candidate, given at any time there is 1-2 future HOF players on a MLB team. So you end up with that long term angle covered, too. ![]() Also, wait to make your purchase at end of season (like Oct timeframe) and your $$ will probably go 2x as far Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Last edited by pewe; 06-21-2021 at 08:11 AM. |

I'm going to throw out Willy Mays Autos... he's a living legend in his 90s.
For a more speculative approach, I'd also suggest Rookie SPs and SSPs of guys that have put a few years of HOF type numbers up.

Investing in a single card of a young player is the riskiest investment you can do. Even though certain young players look like they are sure fire hall of famers, many things can happen to a players career and render that $7000 worthless.
Your best bet is averaging out the money on several hall of famers. I know, it’s boring but it will minimize losses and preserve your capital. |

I would also say sealed wax but prices are still way too high currently. If you can get in at factory cost, it would be lower risk obviously.

Tom Brady 2000 Bowman Chrome BGS 9.5 for 7K or PSA 9 for ~$4500

I would have to go with the 2018 Acuna Sapphire in a 10. Yes I also have one simply because I believe it to be a great buy - especially when you'll be looking back 5-10 years from now and seeing what they were selling for and wish you would have jumped on one sooner. It does help to also like the guy but either way, low pop of what seems to be a player with many years ahead of him. Myslabs site just sold one for $6,950 on June 19th. It was only on there for a few days and I knew that card wouldn't last long at the price. I feel it should be a 10K already. That is what I would choose if I didn't have one and was shopping to spend 7K on a card. And judging by eBay, it appears a lot of sellers actually wont even sell their copies for that amount. It's only going to get tougher/more expensive in the future.

If I did that it would be a hank Aaron or Jackie Robinson 2nd year card for obvious reasons that most of you should know without me explaining, but….. As their rookies become more and more unattainable the 2nd year card becomes or is already in that very desirable spot. Mint you this isn’t something I looked into or anything. Just a very logical and safe move that I wouldn’t lose any money.

If this is an actual investment question, and not a fun exercise, Mr. Albert is absolutely spot on. One of the cheapest, easiest ways to make money. Stick it in a ROTH IRA ($6k limit per person per year, though you can backdate some money) and it doubles every 7 years. (But it's not as fun as staring at Mickey Mantle's face every day.)

I guess it would have to be King Lebron. Buy the most valuable PSA 10 LeBron RC within the $7,000 budget, then flip it once he makes it in the Hall.

I would try for a PSA 8 Jordan rookie if one fell to $7k.

Ended at $6751 earlier this week. Pretty clean auto. Population 12. Good investment? He is on pace to beat a lot of all time records.

you can't get much safer than Kershaw. Every player is subject to the possibility of cheating allegations, abuse allegations, becoming an enemy of 1/2 of America like Schilling, etc. But stats-wise Kershaw is already a sure-fire hall of famer.
The only real questions are the reliability of the baseball card and collectables market in decades to come. That aside, this card is a very safe bet. |
