Default NIL - Tomorrow is going to a historic day for College Sports

Hi, my name is C.J. Stroud. There is nothing better than a packed Ohio Stadium that makes it hard for opponents to hear calls.

But there's nothing worse than not hearing a call, am I right?

Go with Verizon.

Can you hear me now? Good.

Hi, my name is Thayer Munford. My main job is to prevent sacks during the big game. I also avoid boring sack lunches during the week.

Find yourself starving in the afternoon? Skip the brown bag. Think outside the bun.

Taco Bell.

I would rather Football players get it instead of supporting some obscure sport.. also maybe Panini’s reign of terror will be over for college cards.

Well since everyone can get it…

What the hell are you talking about?

Every sport at Ohio State is about to get paid

Not sure who you are rooting for

Now with NIL boosters and company’s pay the kids directly..instead of giving money to the school it goes to Football and Basketball players directly. the school no longer has an equestrian team..sorry Auburn.. no way Ohio State can afford a girls swimming team when they are no longer stealing money from Football players to pay for those non revenue sports.. they pay for all non revenue sports with money from Basketball and Football.

Lots of schools (I don’t know yours to be honest) should hate this

Buckeye players are literally already “jokingly” tweeting sponsors

I don’t have “a” school.

Twist my arm it’s WVU, where I did my grad work. Grew up around Pittsburgh so would causally root for them. Had a ton of friends at PSU and would go there quite often and root for them.

Generally though I’ll root for anyone playing against OSU.

I think it’s going to be a giant mess. I don’t think it’s going to be an overall positive thing for college sports. Mainly because with their being no structure to start off, it’s going to be the Wild West and will be very difficult to get it back under control.

I think athletes being able to make money is good. I think the school’s will corrupt it beyond repair.

They're by far the most popular so they'll get their own beauty or travel sponsorships

I probably made $4,500 in college bands across marching, concert, basketball, and director selected symphonic winds. This was in check form at the end of each semester across 4.5 years and not a part of any other academic package offered by the school. I received only by virtue of being a college musician, not a music major, and I had no future as a professional musician.

My peers from the same high school graduating class that made the college football team? Unless they had an academic scholarship in addition to their athletic scholarship, they received zero dollars and had zero time for a part time job like I did.

I ate whatever the heck I wanted, they had to mind their diets. They had to exercise daily. I only exerted myself 3 days a week from 1:30-4:00, mostly going set by set for the halftime show. If it was raining, we either went inside and did music practice, or we picked our horns up and marched in the rain (very unlikely for this to happen).

And with the exception for brief attempted retaliation for something I wrote in the student paper sophomore year, I didn't have to prepare weekly for 300 pound behemoths to tackle me like the football players did.

Yet, my friends and I in band pocketed money after the semester and the football players did not have the same opportunity. Those of us with academic scholarships covering our tuition, books, and board were literally handed free money every December and May to spend however we wanted. None of us broke any major bones playing music. None of us sustained concussions. None of us had teaching assistants checking to make sure we were in class. If one of my peers got popped for underage drinking or possession, as long as they showed up to practice, they got to stay in band and there wasn't an embarrassing article in the student or local paper.

So yeah, I support letting the student-athletes get paid. I'd be a hypocrite otherwise.

Miami QB already picked a 20k deal with a company and is selling his own signed stuff, only 600 dollars for a signed helmet.

This is going to be a crap show and interesting to watch. The big schools with primetime games are going to get even bigger. A lot of money is going to flow into Alabama, LSU, USC, OSU, Georgia, etc. Maybe some of the second tier schools can break the bank and get a few more high dollar recruits.

I also see another side effect from the player side. You will see an up tic in suspensions due to alcohol, weed, partying, etc. I can only imagine what some of these football players will do if you feed them more money. Will they care about going to class even less if they are getting paid?

This whole thing will be a mess. Maybe things will smooth out over time, but short term it is going to be crazy.
