How many more Moukoko and Jude rookie cards are we going to get this year?

Topps: "great idea"

This is starting to become comical. And not like "I enjoy laughing" type funny. I LIKE increasing production to try to make some products affordable again. But this is out of hand.

Base Card Count (Jude):

Bundesliga Chrome: 13.5k
UEFA Chrome: 40k
MA Bunde Chrome: 4k
MA UEFA Chrome: 4k (assumed - I didn't bother to calculate)
Finest UEFA: A lot
Bunde UEFA: A lot
Bunde Sapphire: 6,000
UEFA Sapphire: 5,000 (assumed)
Merlin: Lots
...
...
We are going to be over 100k on base rookies. Plus inserts. Plus parallels. Plus "premium" releases. Plus whatever on-demand has been produced.

I know it isn't completely fair, but Gio Reyna has ~5,000 plus parallels (700) and inserts from Bundesliga LAST YEAR. Total cards. Jude is going to have 30x that. In a year. Yes - Reyna didn't get in champions. So it deflates things a bit. But even if you look at Haaland who got in EVERYTHING, we are looking at a 15 fold increase.

Setting aside the insanity of yet another Bundesliga release, can someone please explain to me the thought process that went into Topps' decision to add five random circles and a bunch of smaller dots to the design of these cards?

Not only am I going to avoid this release, but the fact that it exists is also going to save me from wasting money on Champions League Chrome, Bundesliga Chrome, Champions League Sapphire (assuming it comes out), Bundesliga Sapphire, Champions League Finest, and the soon to be released Bellingham baby portraits set. Topps is killing its own products with this nonsense.

Agreed on all counts. The way this one came out of nowhere I'm scared that we're not even done for this year beyond all the releases we know about. UEFA Update Series2 Opening Match Day?

Also.... died at "Bellingham baby portraits set", hahaha.

Topps is now adding a "Value-o-meter" to all rookie cards. The big circles are World Cup Wins needed to sustain pricing. The small dots are each worth 5 goals in projected annual output to sustain pricing.

Topps looking out for and giving collectors the information and statistics they REALLY want.....

This is too much. For anyone who thinks it's not too much and I'm overreacting please excuse my PTSD from collecting in the early 90s. Junk wax part deux

Note to Topps - Bundesliga is a lovely league and everything, and I know you picked up the licence real cheap, but it's time we broke up. You were a lovely fling during the start of the pandemic, and you were the only major soccer league still playing globally, but I feel like we've spent to much together too soon.

It's me, not you.

Topps:

Bundesliga 2019-2020 - 600 cases of chrome, plus a little Museum.

Bundesliga 2020-2021 - 2,200 cases of chrome, 21,000 boxes of sapphire, 15,000 boxes of MA Chrome, plus a little tier 1 hot garbage, and now finest.

I know this should be a thread about optimism and excitement about this new neat alternative and "maybe it will be cheaper!" but every different way I look at this it is more and more ridiculous.

With the announcement of this set, for me it’s time to get out of buying boxes and just buy the rare low #’d singles…topps has absolutely saturated the market this year

Ha. Except it is definitely them, not you, who is to blame for this breakup.

Is it better for a company like Topps to flood the market with a ton of brands in one sport (Panini NFL for example), or print a ton of 1 or 2 base offerings?

Either way they are trying to maximize profit which I completely understand, I just don't know which is better for them and for the hobby as a whole.

If it's the same as baseball, I think the dots on the upper right differentiate between base and photo variations/SPs.

Thanks. Seems like the photo variations themselves should be sufficient to differentiate, but I suppose a few other clues from Topps can't hurt.

The world didn't need a Chrome version of Match Attax and Tier One is a trash brand that should've never happened, but other than that... they should be trying to expand.

I'd get worried if they start pumping out tons of retail blasters and they start shelf-warming at dealer shops and tables like all the NFL Optic/Chronicles and NBA Donruss are currently.

Finest/Chrome/Museum is pretty much what the UCL run has been. Paralleling that with Bundesliga should be fine.

And I think it's release fatigue. Everything's been getting dumped at once.

So unnecessary, not to mention ugly base design too.

Seeing as Reus was left out of the UCL, I am just content, but getting two one every product for UCL AND Bundes is just overkill

"Other than the 40% of products that shouldn't have been made, I think Topps is making good decisions."

increasing production of products you already made 500% and on top of it dropping another 500% more product by volume is CERTAINLY an expansion. So I appreciate your optimism of THEIR optimism of global consumption of German league football.

I will maintain it is overkill.

The only thing good about overproduction is that it drives the shoe-crew and retail flippers away.

I had a guy tell me last week who use to own a store, whatever I have sale now.. Get rid of it all, I laughed at him, but with so much crap being produced he may be on to something.
