Default BUYERs BEWARE: eBay seller pack re-sealer

Don_Penya

Is clearly a re-sealer of packs and attempts to sell them on eBay. He got me, although I have a case ongoing with eBay. Decided to hit the forums and warn others after now recieving confirmation that the packs have most definitely been tampered with.
Such a shame eBay is becoming a cesspool again.

Kind of annoying handling this while traveling but hope to spare someone else from the trouble.

Nothing new here. By buying ungraded vintage packs on eBay you are just asking to be scammed.

This guy does it too.

When I told them they were previously opened he seemed genuine, asked me to return them. Did that, and then he went on a rant about how I opened them with a hot light and that I melted some of the packs.

I got my money back in the end and it was clear to me that he sold them to me opened. Before I sent them back I wrote inside in small writing "previously opened). He didnt pick up on this and maybe itll save someone some bother when he does sell them on again.

Wherever there is a hot or valuable rookie card to be found, the pack re-sealers come out of the woodwork to take advantage of naive newbies.

People need to realize that there is almost NO unopened product left from prior to 2014 except for 1990 & 1991 Pro Set, 1992 Score italian, and 93/94 Upper Deck World Cup.

Soccer cards simply weren't valuable enough prior to the pandemic for people to hoard unopened packs/boxes. Anything that was not sold was returned to the manufacturer/distributor and likely destroyed. You might find a few boxes of Premier Gold or Panini Calcio floating around, but that's about it.

So anytime you see a large amount of unopened packs/boxes from a product with valuable cards in it, it's buyer beware.

Speaking of the Pro Set, it's amazing to me that Shearers rookie is still pretty much worthless, especially when you have players like Bellingham and Musiala, who will never achieve half of what big Al did have cards going for high four figures.

Pulling a good condition Shearer out of those boxes is rarer than rocking horse poop.

YEah, I think Ive pulled nearly ten of the things at this stage and the left edge is always damaged. Im seeing a few of the pro set graded now with the same problem, but were give an 8.

That Shearer card should be wanted by everyone whos into the premier league.

Same goes for Frank Lampard. People going crazy for Mount when you can pick up a Lampard rookie for around 50 dollars.

Shearer also has a really nice 93 Upper Deck pre-World Cup for an England card option.

For Pro Set, I have to admit, I haven't go it yet - I think I always think 'it'll be there, I can do that any time' and then don't. I know sooner or later I won't be able to say that to myself and I'll regret it.

Whilst this seems to have descended into a Shearer conversation and I'm a Newcastle fan, let me jump in.

Unless I'm missing something, the card I actually think is most undervalued, is his Panini Gold Euro 1996 cards, if your not bothered about sticker/card then fair enough, but it's his only card from that tournament as far as I can see which is his rookie tournament, and there doesn't seem to be a great deal of them around.

In terms of England cards, The Upper Deck 94 and Coca Cola cards are before then I believe, There's also one from the Upper Deck 98 set of him playing against France in 1992 which his debut.

Sorry, I missed this (junk filter hid it); I'll go look for the 96 later. I'm a sticker fan - no issues with them at all. It's how I started collecting pictures of men in polyster shirts.

BUYERs BEWARE: eBay seller pack re-sealer

There's another seller from Spain who I'm pretty sure is also selling re-sealed packs from this era on eBay but I don't want to out them because I'm not 100% sure. What I can say is the packs open up a little too easily and the seal isn't the greatest on usually one of the two ends. I think I also pulled some creased cards in these packs, funny that the middle card in the pack is creased but the others around it are fine.

Give him a mention so. That sounds clear cut. They have been resealed. But the thing is just because he sold you one it doesnt mean he checked it.

This guy for instance

https://www.ebay.com/usr/guiguite31

I bought loads of packs from this guy. One of them, a world cup 94 pack, was resealed with looked like silica gel. Others opened very easily and others still seemed like whoever resealed them didnt do a good job and it opened by just touching the things.

But a lot of the packs were not resealed. I got a few nice hits from some of the packs he was selling, including an Mbappe rookie. So I think hes genuine, just reselling stuff he bought.

What I notice is, if the person is also selling rare stickers from the packs hes also selling from, then thats a bit of a red flag.

Like this guy.

https://www.ebay.com/usr/omescumiky

I bought a PSA 10 Mbappe off him and a load of packs.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFNY1OQMsFE

The packs were clearly checked so he was double dipping. He denied and blamed the weather.

Still traveling for another week.
Have been sending a lot of info to ebay on this. Whether they rule in my favor or not.
I plan to make a directory of these guys and share them with other forums once I get back to America.
It's a stain on this hobby and would hope to atleast inform others of the potential scanners out there and hopefully start to hurt their pockets.

UPDATE: eBay ruled in my favor.

No information was sent on whether or how to send them back to Spain. I'm assuming at this point I am stuck with these ReSealed packs.

Still traveling but will be back in LA soon. Then I should be able to start some sort of directory.

I've sent the information of this case to a few reputable Instagram card accounts that plan to post about it this week. hopefully this will help others from not getting scammed by Don_Peyna.

Maybe I can share the information on the other sellers mentioned in this thread as well with those insta accounts and they can spread the word on them as well.
