Default Major Discovery. Read Update

Myself and many other Topps Gallery collectors have been searching for the 2002 Topps Gallery Variation 2 cards ever since they were announced in Beckett Magazine in 2002. The idea and concept of SSP image variations was brand new and innovative for modern cards. For the last 20+ years I have been trying to finish the set of 10 cards. Until recently I only had 2 of the 10. However, my luck recently changed. I just bought a lot of 2002 Topps Gallery cards from someone who acquired a lot of cards from a former Topps employee. Amongst the cards I bought was (25) Variation 2 Alex Rodriguez cards! Now I know why these cards have been like unicorns. I know fellow collectors have pulled a variation 2 in a pack/box but my theory is that not all the Variation 2s made it inside the boxes. It appears NONE of the Alex Rodriguez cards have made it inside the boxes and I believe these are the 1st to see the light of day.

This is one of the first SSP image variations ever made! Because this insert was one of the first print runs of SSPs with image variations, most people didn’t know to look for these. Most are probably lost in regular base sets around the world.

From Baseballcardpedia.com:

“Ten players have two variations. The more common variation (also known as "Variation 1") were inserted at the rate of one-per-box. "Variation 2" is much, much, scarcer, and limited (but not serial-numbered) to 25 copies.”
