This is the set that started the Vintage obsession for me - Grandpa gifted me with the Hank Aaron when I was in first grade and its all been downhill since. Can't wait to break!

One of my favorite designs! This is actually the first year I started collecting, damned I feel old!! Looks like this will have more background variations if they stick to the 1973 variations.

I hope so. Do we also get a "Bandaid" variant like the Kaline?

I might have to pick up a complete set next year as that is my birth year design.

As big a fan as I am of the over-the-funky-top 1972 design, I also love this clean and clear design. I love that Topps is now in my childhood with Heritage. Several memorable photos from this set, I hope they can maintain that thread.

I wonder what the difference will be between Refractors and Silvers? I guess the regular refractors will be like white refractors?

Franco RCs should make everything 2022 at least mildly interesting. Unless he totally bombs out.

I thought Rookies had dual cards and the action would be solo. Looks like they are not doing that. I’m sure that should make a lot of people happy.

Same here. It's just a shame Topps watered Heritage down so much this year and ruined it. No going back now. Will open 2 boxes (instead of 12 cases) and be content with that.

Interesting they show the Wander solo...I assume that'll be the action variation. There's no way they'd abandon the tradition of the dual RCs at this point. That would be a very bad decision with a lot of backlash that people wouldn't realize at first.

The fun things to watch:
1) Do we get the manager cards?
2) Do we get the team checklist cards?
3) If they do want to remain faithful to the '73 set, is it even possible for them to get the rights to use Barry Bonds' image for card #1? Not gonna be able to do the all-time HR leader card without him.

‘72 and ‘73 are the sets I’ve been most anticipating.

My one question: I wonder how they’ll do the black refractors, since the shadow player images are in black? Probably just do them in white, yeah?

I'm looking forward to this as well, really liked the 1973 design. Always felt like an older set to me than it actually is for some reason

I'm thinking this is a silver or a refractor. So for Franco at least, it looks like he'll be on a card solo. Keep in mind they can have both stand alone RC and dual RC in the same set. Save the dual for guys who get called up late. Then again, I imagine Wander will have the gold cup, so this might not be the final draft of his card.

Heritage is gowing on me all the time and as much as I dislike that 100 cards are SP making the set much harder to put together it's fun. Not a huge fan of this design as it feels similar to 1969 but it beats most of the modern flagship designs

I wish they had a guaranteed auto in the hobby box instead of those worthless relics.

P.S Please call BWJ up and put him in this set.

The stand alone in the low number set for rookies are the action variations and the base which has the parallels is a dual card. High numbers is where the stand alone rookies are. That’s why I brought it up. The card looks like a chrome parallel which would indicate a change for the set, at least for Wander.

Default First Buzz: 2022 Topps Heritage baseball cards

We’re rolling closer to mid-March.
As a taster, here are a couple of ‘73s from an Archives set that just came out in Bunt.
(These are more likely to be digital only, rather than the real Heritage designs.)

Those exact cards were just part of the 2021 Archives set...

What usually kind of spoils the Archive cards is that the photos they use are way, way too crisp. They should use a vintage filter, or use old film, and they should sometimes intentionally take awkward shots instead of 100% perfectly-composed and perfectly-lit shots.

I think that’s a result of digital photography rather than using film. Heritage has been sterile like that for many years, some worse than others. Somehow the action photos they purchase from Getty don’t have that same coldness.

73 Topps has some funky good time going on in it.

72/21 Heritage didn’t really try that hard.
