Default PSA - eBay Scammer Alert - Breaker High Cards

Purchased an eBay sportscard team break auction for the Charlotte Hornets from Breaker High Cards with over 1,700 feedback score and 99.5% rating.

This was for team break of the Charlotte Hornets for FOTL 2020-21 Panini Select Basketball. During this live streamed break, the seller pulled a Neon Orange LaMelo Ball Rookie Jersey AUTO /30 valued at ~10k. He first tried scamming by sending to an incorrect address with the package opened and retaped to blame the "missing" card on household it was delivered. USPS and I cleared up this scheme very quickly. The package I finally received obviously did not contain the $10k card and only contained a single card worth less than $1.

After confronting him about his failed tampered package scheme attempt he admitted that he didn't send it to me and the reason being that since the "redemption card" didn't explicitly state "Charlotte Hornets" that he didn't send it to me. I showed him that he didn't have a "redemption spot" for sale or sold during this specific break and now he claims he sold a separate redemption spot in a DIFFERENT auction.

https://ibb.co/album/5TLwBq for the string of our conversation through eBay messaging as well as other images countering his lies. Please read the conversation from oldest to new (bottom to top).

He had his live stream with chat disabled and private messaging on eBay disabled for obvious reasons. Obviously by his feedback score he does honest breaks when they are average cards but exceptional rare redemptions he will scam you.

I've been working tirelessly to spread this information on all social media platforms so others don't get screwed over like me. Please spread awareness of this scammer and tell others to avoid.

I’m assuming it’s the FOTL break sold on 8/7? If so there was no redemption spot sold as you stated.

Breaking has become such a scammy part of the hobby. I’d never consider joining an Ebay break. It’s just scams on top of scams there anymore.

Has this guy sold a single redemption spot on any of his breaks? None of the panini redemptions say the team name, but I'm guessing he usually ships them to the team spot or he'd have hundreds of negs

Here it is

Also, you should fix your reddit links before you repost, those don't take you to the page.

I'm glad you posted this here. I wouldn't have found it otherwise.

I'd encourage you to file a lawsuit. Small claims. Firs though I think you should go to the police. This is theft. This is your property. They may not be able to help but you should ask.

The idea that the card is not a Charlotte Hornets cards is laughable. If it gets to this point maybe you can refer to the team checklists from Beckett https://www.beckett.com/news/2020-21...cards/#hornets

I have never heard of a redemption spot in a break. Maybe if it is a player break and not all players are listed but you bought all Hornets cards and he's clearly trying to keep this for himself.

That's a damn shame, and a crime! I'm not sure how you can get the guy, anyone can help or advise here?

The biggest red flag is them thinking their explanation ends at “we sold it on another platform”. I’d be sending you every single detail of exactly how and where I sold that redemption spot. Not just saying I did and hoping that works

If USPS is already involved with his damaged mail scheme, you may have a case of mail fraud by filing at https://www.uspis.gov/report.

where did you get this information?

Neon Orange LaMelo Ball Rookie Jersey AUTO /15

you say this is from a FOTL 2020-21 Panini Select Basketball box. according to the checklist...

https://www.cardboardconnection.com/...nchor_1_361265

Rookie Jersey Autographs Set Checklist
40 cards. Serial numbered #/199.
PRIZM PARALLELS: Disco, Gold Wave, Red Wave, Purple #/99, Neon Orange Pulsar FOTL #/30, Tie-Dye #/25, Neon Purple Pulsar FOTL #/15, Gold #/10, Gold Disco #/10, Black 1/1, Black Disco 1/1, Black Snake Skin Pulsar FOTL 1/1.

85 bids and ended at $7,000, not $10,000

My mistake, that's correct it is /30 not /15. I was working on too many things but this doesn't change any of the facts.

no...but you do not want to start throwing incorrect information out there in cases like this.

Sounds like a very frustrating experience. Reading the transcript of your message exchange gave me anxiety. Will not be buying breaks from that guy.

But $10K for a card like that is a bit ridiculous to me.

Pay a lawyer a few hundred bucks to send an official letter (overnighted) to their address threatening further action if card isn't sent. If they want to pursue then file a lawsuit.

You have a lot of proof but if it were me, I'd quit posting and call a lawyer first thing tomorrow.

Yes, submitted a police report and file a claim with eBay fraud investigations already.

they will pay their lawyer fees, but op will still have to pay his own lawyer fees.

this would be a civil suit, and you can only go after fees in select circumstances.

Then even if you get a judgement it's not always easy to enforce judgements. Especially when multiple jurisdictions involved.

this is quite true as well. just because you "win" does not mean you will ever see any money from the other party.

Exactly, extreme hobby fraud should always be highlighted.

Too bad extreme hobby fraud exists far more often than it should.
