What moves are you expecting the Tigers to make this off-season?
I'd expect a few major trades + signings. I could very well see them go after Chapman and Marte and make a serious run at Seagar/Correa. Are we looking at a sleeping giant this off-season? I mean money + lots of prospect capital + not terrible roster. |

I think only signings. Maybe can trade a bullpen arm but not sure what else would be in suplus, at least at MLB level.
The young rotation is ready but some more depth is still needed there. |

I know they say this is the off season they make moves, but I think it will be underwhelming compared to the dombrowski days. Detroit has a fair number of prospects, but the good ones are going to be saved. I could see Fulmer and Alexander moved.
Hopefully SS gets addressed. Maybe catcher is finally addressed? |

The Tigers were fun to watch for a team that wasn’t expected to do much. They have a bright future with a couple of added pieces.

Catcher isn’t settled really. Haase has a good bat but I doubt he would finish high on lists of Catcher defensive metrics and his bat might be much better when not behind the dish. Rogers has gone in for Tommy John surgery. Garneau and Greiner would be ?s for a full season but serviceable options (i.e. headed towards being back-ups).
That leaves the prospect Dingler @ AA this season just past. Another ? And would say they have been drafting (Greiner, Dingler) and even trading (Rogers, Hasse though he might have been waiver wire) for new Catchers, trying to address it pretty steadily. Just still a project in progress. Last edited by base set; 09-22-2021 at 06:28 PM. |

Shortstop, a veteran starter pitching, and possibly a catcher should be the offseason priorities.
The revolving door of SS’s needs to end and no prospects will be ready by spring to take the reins. Right now I only see three locks for next years rotation in Mize, Manning, and Skubal. I’m not counting on a healthy Boyd as last I heard all reports were pointing towards Tommy John surgery. Verlander would be nice, but I’m not sure he would want to come in with the Tigers still a year or two away from wild card contention. A middle of the rotation vet on a 1-2 year contract seems most likely.

I could see them handing out a couple multi year deals, probably to a SS, a SP, and a C (in that order). Maybe they take a flyer on a 1B/OF to fill in until Tork and Greene get called up. Otherwise I think it's going to be a relatively quiet offseason hoping everyone continues to develop.

Go out and get Wilson Contreras from the Cubs, Seagar, and Sonny Gray.
I could very well see a Belt/Rizzo as well. I think if they take a shot this off-season they could really build something incredible. |

They already re-signed Schoop, probably for first base / odd jobs.
I’m sure the Mets are thrilled to get 0.2 WAR from McCann this year, for $10 Million with 3 more years on the deal. I liked McCann, but cutting him loose doesn’t look so bad, right now. |

Baez, Eduardo Rodriguez, and Tucker Barnhart and still have the prospect capital to go after pretty much anyone and their payroll after they release Boyd is still down at 120. They can go get Stroman for 20 million plus, and Suzuki likely for 11 a year and still have breathing room at 151.

Give me another mid-front end starter and call it an off-season and I’ll be a happy Tigers fan.

I thought a key thing wasn’t exactly which SS they signed or even the $AAV but rather the # of years on the contract. Baez @ 6 years seems good in that regard. Fewer years should just simply be more flexibility overall.
I hope they re-sign W. Peralta and a small pile of other veteran starter ‘reclamation projects’ as per usual. In minor back-up Catcher trivia news, Greiner elected Free Agency today. And the Pirates just traded their only Catcher on their 40 man, so |

The idea of Verlander returning to Detroit is still intriguing. There’s a lot of ifs involved, obviously, and maybe a why or two...
For example, If the core & the elbow are “all systems go” why did he accept just a one-year deal with Houston? |

I agree about the contract length for both Baez and Rodriquez. Rodriguez’s contract expires before Mize, Skubal, or Manning can become free agents and Baez’s contract will be over before Tork and Greene need to be paid should they live up to their potential. This will give the Tigers a nice 3-5 year window of contention starting as early as this season.

JV signed a 2 year deal with Houston, albeit with a player opt-out in the middle.
