Default Golf: Why no love for Phil's cards?

Popular on the tour. Not a lot of autograph cards. Seems like they should sell for A LOT more.

Agreed. Phil is world class. He only signed in 2002 and that is his main RC. Should go for a lot more due to scarcity in my opinion.

The appreciatIon for what he’s done for the game of golf is already there, it just hasn’t been reflected as much in his card values.

In due time the hobby will see that he was not only a great golfer but also one of the greatest. To compete in the same era as the most successful golfer and arguably the best golfer in history and still win as many tournaments as he has is a tremendous feat. Unquestionably Tiger drove Phil to be as good as he became but it makes you think where we would put Phil in the pantheon of greats had Tiger not existed.

Tiger overshadowing him is definitely a good reason.

As popular as he is he also didn't win his first major until 34. Tied for 12th all time in major wins probably also hurts his standing.

His popularity probably exceeds his ranking all time. Not sure he transcends the golf stage that much.

Here are the golfers whose cards are worth money:

Tiger Woods
Eldrick T. Woods
Woods, Tiger
T. Woods

There are some SP Nicklaus cards selling for $200. Everything else is a $5 card

Understand where you’re going, but it’s not quite that extreme. Morikawa, JT, and Dechambeau auto rookies are all up there around $1K, especially graded stuff. The 2002 Phil SP auto rookie went for $820 in a BGS 9.5/10 a month ago.

Anyone know why so many of the bigger name golfers don’t have any autos? Rahm, Koepka, Spieth, etc. Seems quite disproportionate to other sports.

I would love to put together a nice golf collection but I mainly collect autographs so this is obviously an issue.

Koepka didn't even have or want sponsors for some time I thought...could be like Myles Garrett in football where he just does not want to sign or like Khalil Mack where he just wants more $ for it.

No clue on Spieth but doesn't surprise me, Rahm I would love to see in the next line of products.

Not sure. I know he’s never had an actual club sponsor which I understand but he is sponsored by Nike for apparel and by Havsies Popcorn and Michelob Ultra I believe.

Alright it was bothering me so I found it:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/golf.co...nt-deal-worth/

Equipment. No direct evidence here obv and just a theory but this quote:

“Koepka’s just so unusual,” said one of two veteran golf-equipment marketers who agreed to speak to GOLF.com provided they remain anonymous. “For literally every player on the PGA Tour, their ego gets in the way at some point and they feel like they need to get paid for what’s in the bag. But Brooks hasn’t felt the need to cash-in. He seems pretty content to just let it ride and stick with what he’s playing. The plan is obviously working.”

Makes me think he might not be so quick to commit if he doesn’t care about the $. For how much he talked about his love for baseball and possibly going that route I’d be surprised if he didn’t want his own rookie card.

Idk. Just wish he had them lol.

See I like this and think it shows his commitment to being the absolute best he can be. Can you imagine trying out the new say Ping driver and hitting it like an absolute dream but being unable to use it because you’re married to Cobra.

I get it he doesn’t make it easy to the golf purists with his whole “I’m not a golfer, I’m an athlete who happens to be really good at golf” and “golf is boring, I wish it was 12 holes instead of 18” schtick.

My bad just saw this. Couldn't agree more and why I love him, and immediately what I thought of when they announced 12 holes lol. I do think it's marginally cooler when he's winning to back it up so hoping he bags #5 at some point soon.
