Curious what everyone thinks? Who gets called up for each team and what young guys start the year with the team out of spring training?...
MLB has an article talking about it: https://www.mlb.com/news/rookie-of-t...andidates-2022 |

I think Yoelqui Cespedes gets an early call for the White Sox. Likely doesn't supplant Adley for that lists purpose, but Grayson Rodriguez has a good shot at debuting once service time isn't an issue. Then for the Marlins, I think Bleday may have finally turned the corner in AFL and I could see him rising quick next year with a hot start.

Going to be interesting to see how collective bargaining affects this.

Anyone on the opening day roster should be in Topps Chrome (and Series 2). Topps has already gotten very inconsistent though, and next year will surely only make things more inconsistent.

Pretty sure anyone in the lineup by opening day is guaranteed to have be in TC. And still guys called up a bit after that. |

Whether any of these guys make it into any mid-season releases depends on the new CBA. If the players prioritize service time changes & they get their way, we could see a bunch of prospects opening the year in the majors, or very close to it...
That said, pre-June call-ups could be: Adley Rutschman Bobby Witt Jr Hunter Greene Nick Pratto Spencer Torkelson Matthew Liberatore Bryson Stott Jeremy Pena Jose Miranda Nolan Gorman And a 2nd tier, with what I'll call a less than 50% chance of pre-June: MJ Melendez (only because of position. Salvy's GG-er & MJ only has a few games in at 3B) Nick Lodolo Brice Turang Riley Greene Royce Lewis Cade Cavalli Jordan Balazovic Jhoan Duran Nolan Jones Alek Thomas Drew Waters Jeter Downs Yoelqui Cespedes Hunter Brown Ethan Small Heliot Ramos Josh Jung Gabriel Moreno I don't think we see J-Rod before mid-June. He could actually use some more time in the minors for developmental reasons (because the Mariners suppressed his promotions.) Last edited by marterburn; 11-22-2021 at 06:12 PM. |

Waters definitely doesn't look ready yet. Turang might have a shot with the Brewers, but he looked pretty overmatched every time I saw him in person. He also looks scrawny as anything so he's got some time to bulk up a bit. They list him at 6 feet 173 pounds, but I'd be shocked if he's over 165.

Waters, Downs, Turang, Jones are all kinda in the same boat. They all have enough experience in the high minors to get called up whenever and *maybe* not look foolish, but they probably would.
___ There's also a bunch of guys who will definitely get called up later in mid-June, but it's less predictable & probably irrelevant for 2022 products. If Bleday looks like he did in the AFL, that's when he'll get the call. There's also the '2022's Geraldo Perdomo' that nobody's going to guess. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk |

I'll write up a little more.
Hunter Dozier is not an obstacle to a hot Nick Pratto breaking camp. Hunter Greene has enough AAA innings to project an early season callup, but we'll see. Lodolo does not, but they're basically in the same place developmentally. I think Liberatore gets a shot at the rotation out of camp (Andre Pallante may as well, after his strong AFL, but he's not a close to a 'top prospect' so I didn't mention him.) Bryson Stott is slightly blocked. If Stott has a great spring could the Phillies cut or trade Didi (it's his last year I beleive)? He kinda looked washed both before & after injury year, he's never been a plus defender (not that we're sure Stott is better defensively). Jeremy Pena is the de facto Astros starting SS as of right now. Will it actually happen? Probably not, but he deserves a shot sooner rather than later, and is definitely more advanced right now (especially at the position) than Pedro Leon. If Jhoan Duran strung together 25-30 healthy innings he would've been in the majors this year. Those innings may come in ST and be parlayed into a bullpen role out of camp, or he might be stretched out as a starter in the minors, or he might get TJ (the latter of his two injuries this year was elbow - I didn't make that up)! Not to turn this into Twins talk, but Jose Miranda smacks of a mid-May call-up. Nobody like Jake Cave eating up AB's, and Luis Arraez is better served as a super-util. Royce Lewis is tougher because there's no clear path to playing time & he may still be recovering, but if his talent shines through in ST as it did the last time we saw him playing in the 2019 AFL, nothing will block him. |

Mackenzie Gore really is a forgotten man. Think he’ll 100% be up at some point next year. Obviously has had his ups and downs, but hopefully the new pitching coach can help him out

Xavier Edwards. Batted over .300 in 5 stops over 3 seasons.
