1948 Leaf Ted Williams. I've been meaning to get this graded but haven't gotten around to it.
Quick story about this card. A friend of mine owned an LCS and for two years I obsessed about this card. He never put it out in the showcase. It was always locked away in the back with some other things in his PC that he told me he'd be open to selling. Don't ask me why it took me so long to buy it. I just had other priorities card-wise. Then finally I said screw it and bought it. This was years and years ago. That same friend has since died from colon cancer. When I look at this card it reminds me of him.

Nice William's, be careful taking it out of that acrylic brick press.

Phew…couldn’t you find a PSA 7
J/k….dead centered and take away the grade and I see a 7 or 8 easily. Honestly, anything less in your 1956 collection would be subpar.

Wow that is a killer 56 Mantle! Great card that’ll just increase in value year over year. And CarboardCombat that’s a great card to remember your friend.
Nice start to the year Gents! |

Thanks for the compliments folks. I tend to buy a lot of 0.5 grade cards that have great eye appeal (at least in my opinion). I think there is quite a bit of value to the collector in cards like that.

This got shipped back today. Hopefully I get it back this week! Got it raw off of eBay in a lot and I had to buy it. Not up to my usual eye appeal criteria, but I love the colors on this and it doesn't have that annoying print defect under his elbow.

Thanks, it does have a stain on the back but when I held it in my hands I knew I just had to get it. I picked these up this week also. The matchbook was on a whim but I never had one and for it to have lasted over 80 years was astounding to me. The guy said it was was from 1933?

Interesting how the '57 Williams has almost the exact same pose as the '57 Mantle.
Same photographer? Thank you for sharing. |

I love the half grades as well. I think most dealers hate them, because they are difficult to sell for much more than the average price of the corresponding lower whole grade most of the time. But to me the "+" is a TPG complement...

Amazing cards, all. That 56 Mantle, omg. While we're on the subject of 1952 Bowman -- what a gorgeous set by the way -- I still can't believe I own this one. The capstone of my Willie Mays PC if not my whole collection. Purchased graded a few months ago.

Awesome Mays
Side note: looks like the esignature spelled Mays wrong, never noticed that before
