Default Buyer refunded without sending cards back

So Ebay just refunded a guy who asked for a return on a lot of 3 Ja Morant optic RC... he said they wouldnt grade high enough because of print lines. They were easily near mint as described but they also sold under $30 in mid December so I readily agreed. Paid for the return label that day and don't hear anything for a week (during which time the card basically doubles in value).

Get a message a day or so ago that he's sick and needs more time to send them back. Ok, sounds sketchy but whatever I guess, we'll see what happens. Now suddenly they send me a message today that the case is closed and he's been refunded! Without sending the cards, and admitting it to me a day ago..??? What am I supposed to do now? Hundreds of transactions and only ever been asked for a return one other time.. also a card a card as described which I refunded immediately and never received back as well. I may quit selling on Ebay just as a result of these two experiences. If Ebay won't bother to filter out scam artists and instead decides to cater to them, why even bother for the slim margins I'm looking at most of the time.

Welp, I'd call or chat with eBay and say WTF. I assume when you say that you "paid" for the return label, you had eBay issue it, right? Which also means you selected the option to accept a return, thus eBay knows that there should be tracking to show that the item was sent back....

I was told me to purchase a label for him so I did and thought he just goes on to print and use it.. they said if I did not buy one, they would.. but I thought the option of me buying it makes it faster? I'm new at this, like I said I never get return requests, mostly because I resell cards with condition issues when the market is soft so the buyers get a better value.

Who told you to purchase a label? How did you purchase a label? How did the buyer get the "purchased" label. Did you send him a picture of a label to print out in an eBay message?

If you selected the option where you provide the label and you did not actually send him one that is why. Always let ebay provide the label. It will get billed to you but there is no doubt at that point it was sent

I was afraid it was something like that. I thought when I purchased it he would get sent a link to print it out. Not sure why they don't make it more clear. I thought waiting for ebay to do it was just a needless delay.

How did you "purchase" it? USPS.com?
