Whoever gets Calvin Ridley next will be getting a stud. Taking a break from football due to mental stress has caused Calvin to reconsider his relationship with the Falcons. Hate to see him leave but I personally want what is best for any player.

The Bucs will have at least one open WR roster spot after this season. Just throwing it out there

while the health of a person should be first and foremost, it does have to make you wander if this is successful in getting him out of atlanta, will a "'mental health break' and deciding a fresh start is what I need" will become a new norm? i mean, you see half way through the year that your team is going nowhere and you are toiling away your prime years also knowing with a franchise tag that there is no way to get out, i could see players taking a mental break for the last half of the year and saying he needs a new start, knowing if the team says no, you are under contract with us, it is a very bad look for the team. if i were trevor lawrence, i would be looking into this right now

I will eat all the crow in the world if it's proven that he faked it all to get out of Atlanta, but I will never mess with or put down someone claiming mental health issues. Guess what, it's real, and the pressures of being a famous athlete to succeed can really cause problems for someone mentally. So I actually commend him for choosing to step away and make sure he is right so that he can have a full and successful life after he is doing playing a sport.

True. Does he really have a mental issue or not though? If so, I hope he gets the help needed. If it’s a way to force a move, he’s not helping the people who have a real mental health issue. It’s a tricky situation.

The Chiefs sure could use a true #2 receiver, especially with Hill getting hurt all the time. I know he could be a #1 receiver oven his skill, but that may be a tall hill to climb for teams at the moment. Not sure how teams will get comfortable that Ridley won’t have another mental break down and abandon them after they sign him. He has probably relegated himself to a one-year deal that is incentive laden so teams can manage downside risk

While I applaud him for taking time away from football to deal with his issues, I wonder if the Falcons have asked for and/or received any objective evidence of what his issues are. I think that’s part of what people question about Ridley and Biles - the field of mental health is largely misunderstood due to a lack of clinical evidence underlying psychiatric disabilities. In the end, different psychiatrists/psychologists may disagree on diagnoses and treatment, and who is to say who is right or wrong?
If he was stepping away from football because he was dealing with the loss of an arm, such questions wouldn’t need to be asked. However, when someone says that they need time away from work/relationship/etc. due to mental illness, there is no concrete medical evidence of such besides an educated opinion. That doesn’t sit well with some people and employers. Would your boss pay you under these circumstances? |

Which is why I'm practically a ghost around here now. It's exhausting to have to defend my username, a name I created 10 damn years ago, every single time I have an opinion on something. People act like children on this forum now and it's just not fun to be around. I'm here for my fantasy baseball leagues, that's pretty much it.
