Default Hoops Hype Under 25 NBA Exec Poll

Always enjoy these lists.... this past week they've come out with 2:

Top Players Under 25, and Top Players to Build Around under 25.

My understanding is Top Players is more of a look at who is best right now (so older guys tend to do better on this list) and Top Players to Build Around looks more at future potential. Here are the lists:

Top Players Under 25:
1. Luka Doncic, Dallas (22)
2. Trae Young, Atlanta (23)
3. Ja Morant, Memphis (22)
4. Jayson Tatum, Boston (23)
5. Zion Williamson, New Orleans (21)
6. Lamelo Ball, Charlotte (20)
7. SGA, OKC (23)
8. Bam Adebayo, Miami (24)
9. Jarrett Allen, Cleveland (23)
10. Deandre Ayton, Phoenix (23)
11. Darius Garland, Cleveland (21)
12. Anthony Edwards, Minnesota (20)
13. Jamal Murray, Denver, (24)
14. Brandon Ingram, New Orleans (24)
15. Evan Mobley, Cleveland (20)
16. De'Aaron Fox, Sacramento (24)
17. John Collins, Atlanta (24)
18. Miles Bridges, Charlotte (23)
19. Lonzo Ball, Chicago (24)
20. Scottie Barnes, Toronto, (20)
21. Jaren Jackson Jr, Memphis (22)

Top Players to Build Around under 25
1. Luka Doncic, Dallas (22)
2. Jayson Tatum, Boston (23)
3. Ja Morant, Memphis (22)
4. Lamelo Ball, Charlotte (20)
5. Trae Young, Atlanta (23)
6. Evan Mobley, Cleveland (20)
7. Zion Williamson, New Orleans (21)
8. SGA, OKC (23)
9t. Bam Adebayo, Miami (24)
9t. Anthony Edwards, Minnesota (20)
11. Brandon Ingram, New Orleans (24)
12. Jamal Murray, Denver, (24)
13. Cade Cunningham, Detroit (20)
14t. Deandre Ayton, Phoenix (23)
15t. Michael Porter Jr, Denver (23)

How is Zion so high? Don’t you have to play to be a player?

And how is MPJ someone to build around yet he isn’t one of the top 21?

Was the second list done before the season? How is Tatum above Lonzo and how is MPJ even on the list?

If Zion comes back even close to 100% him being that low on both lists is going to look hilariously bad.

Not really. Even if he was healthy he would probably be 3...maybe 2 but also maybe 4.

3- 5 spots back against guys who have actually stayed on the court which is pretty important thing to build around.

Apparently both MPJ and Ayton got the minimum vote in the player to build around ranking...

So 1 guy thought somewhat highly of him.

As a n00b hoops collector, I see 2019 Prizm Ja PSA 9s are about $60...that seems like a pretty solid long-term opportunity, no?

Except for the base RC market has imploded recently. So essentially you're banking on the fact that he A) becomes a superstar or B) The base market rebounds.

Tell me you don’t watch basketball without telling me you don’t watch basketball

Zion at 100% still might be behind some of these guys

You clearly aren’t watching

I don’t understand your question

I didn’t say people below him would jump him

Who is he jumping?

The post said he’s laughably low if healthy…

He isn’t

Fair lists. Remember, these are based on the present time frame. The build around proposition will almost always be pg dominated since you're dealing with blank slate roster construction vs. straight up individual skillset. Not sure I'd have Tatum that high though.

My bad, I misread your post.

On who is he jumping, I think he would be 2nd behind Luka. But everyone from 2 to 6 is interchangeable right now.

Lol, the 20-year-old averaging 27-7-4 on elite efficiency isn't behind anybody on the list except for Luka let's make that 100% clear. With the injury/love for the game concerns I understand why he's lower, but as I said, if he comes back like he was before getting injured no GM in the league is taking guys like Trae/Tatum over him.

Tatum is the most overrated player I can remember in quite some time.

People have the audacity to say he reminds them of Kobe.

Wrong

But keep thinking that

But what are the odds of that happening?

Or maybe coming back and staying healthy?

This makes sense...

A lot of the guys from 2016 are 25 or older....

2017 and 2018 are the more experienced players, so they should be better.

I fear for the future of basketball when there are people in charge of basketball operations that have Ayton or MPJ as one of their Top 5 franchise cornerstones.
