Default What happens to the baseball card market if there is no season?

I'm wondering what the more seasoned collectors think will happen to the market if the 2022 season gets canceled?

I have some cards I'm interested in picking up but would be happy to wait a but if no season or a delayed season means lower prices on some of them lol

Curious what people think

On the flip side, if a deal comes today or soon, the hype train for some will really kick into full gear and prices may drift upward.

Long term I’m really not that concerned about what happens this season. What I’m extremely concerned about is the economy in general imploding at any point. If inflation keeps soaring as well, less and less people are going to be interested in paying big money for cards. Hopefully things remain steady, but there’s a real possibility that there’s a severe correction coming.

Major crash. Would be horrible. It's a counting stat based sport.

Nothing will change for me. May even make it easier for me to complete my sets and collect the players I want.

I really hope both sides can come to an agreement and they can save the season though.

"Investors" will take a beating and hopefully find something else to speculate on...

If you like the hobby, the washout of “investors” from a lost season might be exactly what we need right now

Wander will have RCs in ‘21, ‘22 and ‘23 products.

It will be amazing!

I think it massively hurts. Shortened 2020 and then a cancelled 2022 would hurt counting stats massively. I think this is a two week max type shortage though. They are frustrated with each other, but really just futzing with some details even if they paint it as being far apart.

Is it though? Seems like massive oversaturation is about to occur with his cards.

I was being sarcastic.

We all know his true RC is ‘21.

Since the majority of the market is into prospects, it will be fine because they are still going to have a season.

This.

If no season this year there’d be no need for most products next year.

As a collector, I will continue to collect Yankee cards and the few yearly sets as normal. Hopefully it will mean cheaper singles prices by people looking to get out of cards.

If nobody's playing baseball everything goes down.
