Default **April Pickup thread**

Figured I'd go ahead and get this started.

Wanted to try and put together a set this year as a hobby goal, selected the 1954 set, just getting HOF'ers together first. Have the two William's at SGC for reslabs, but picked this up yesterday and it's absolutely gorgeous.

Awesome card! Just out of curiosity I’d love to ask a question. I randomly decided I wanted to put together the 1967 set. I have no real plan, but decided to start by picking stars/HOFs. And every now and then I’ll pick of a few minor stars. How do you go about it when you collect a vintage set? Look for bulk commons after you have all the rc/stars or in parallel?

Cheers

In a similar boat as this is my first vintage set that I'm attempting to piece together.

I've been fortunate thus far, as my local shops have netted me a majority of the base cards, and the Mays posted above. My method really has just been to print out the check list, and start on a weekly basis just trying to pick up 10-15 commons to cross off. It's been tedious finding cards that meet my requirements though, as I'm trying to get everything (minus the Aaron) in a "5" or better.

There's a vintage FB group that's been amazing for me as well "Vintage Baseball Cards Only 1868-1979". Wonderful group of collectors who have been nothing but amazing in providing info.

I would check out eBay and net54baseball forums for people selling bulk commons. If you try to put it together card by card without a good starting point, it would be frustrating and really expensive. COMC is also a great place to find cards you need. A lot of the low number base for 1967 can be had for less than 70 cents per card. Right now, even getting a Mantle/Aaron or other stars in decent condition in 1967 can get super expensive. Finding a wrinkled Seaver with bad corners under $700 is pretty difficult. A filler card with 10% of the surface missing on the front recently sold for $485.

My latest Jazz pickup. I love Stadium Club Gold Minted cards. Hoping this is a breakout year for him. He just needs to cut down on strike outs a bit, and stay healthy.

UF #4 is a modern blue chip. One the smartest buys you can make right now. I bought two raws for $20 a pop a while back and was able to get a 9.8 and a 9.6 on them.

Just got a COMC order in which had the last card I needed to complete this set:

A few other highlights...

Both Boog and Bronson are from Key West, figured it would be cool to have a Heritage card of Arroyo that honors the set from Boog's rookie year.

Another Key West Conch...

A little hockey...

And of course Yordan...
