I was excited for this set but the price is tough to swallow. Four autos per box seems great but you know most of them are going to be minor guest stars. And does anyone know if you can get the incentives by buying the required number of cases from a retailer like Blowout? Or do you have to go directly to Rittenhouse or a distributor?

I agree with the 4 autos, lots of signers most people won't even recognize. Was also hoping for a Patrick Stewart "Make it so" inscription, but since he's only signing oversized cards now maybe expecting inscriptions was a bit much.

And I'm 99% sure Blowout keeps the multi-case incentives even if you buy 6+ cases from them. They have them for sale on their site and ebay for most Rittenhouse sets.

There are a few on the list that I don't have from previous sets. Judd, d'Abo, Del Arco, but at that price I'll chase them elsewhere as singles

Egad. I've been taking a break from cards and popped in because I knew this set was coming out soon. At this price point, my break will continue.

Same.

That price point is tougher because A. There will be a lot of $5 autos in the list and B. Even the main cast like Spiner and Frakes aren't making up the cost of the box.

In terms of the signors and types of cards and subsets this seems pretty similar in configuration to the TOS Archives and Inscriptions set.

Is there anything to justify the price point other than the increased number of autographs per box?

Couple of relevant messages from Rittenhouse’s Steve:

“Keep in mind that we have the cards for Picard Series 2, which will have Patrick Stewart autographs. We are working to get him to do some cards with inscriptions, but we need to balance what's in the TNG card sets with what's in the Picard sets.”

“It's still very early in the process of developing the next Picard set, but we will have another overized Stewart autograph, at least. He simply doesn't want to sign regular sized trading cards anymore, as they are too difficult for him to manage.”

So it sounds possible there will eventually be oversized Patrick Stewart inscriptions but nothing on the horizon. I had hoped they had some from years ago stuffed in a vault as Rittenhouse often does, but not in this case.

I want someone to ask that in the "ask Steve Charendoff" thread, but judging by the Blowout price of the Doctor Who release, this is RA's new model. Discouraging.

There are a lot of friendly dealers on this site who won’t be selling boxes for $169, but quite a bit lower. Rittenhouse prices their boxes high so they don’t undercut their sellers. Probably more like $125-$140. Still, it's a lot, and it is likely that the other two autographs will be stuff from their vault(Guest stars of the week), but they may surprise us. I love the idea of inscriptions for the TNG cast. It is a shame there’s no Stewart, but it’s understandable. And as far as the incentives are concerned, I’m sure you can find plenty of them for sale by themselves on ebay.

Is anyone ordering/opening this?

I would have liked to pick up a few cases, but after seeing the checklist there is absolutely nothing in it to justify the massive increase in price compared to similar Star Trek sets.

They took the concept for TOS Inscriptions, added 2 more autographs per box, and nearly doubled the price? That would be fine if the checklist was stacked like Inflexions, but most are single episode signors that aren't worth very much.

Really disappointed by this decision and Rittenhouse's recent pricing trends.

I planned on buying at least a case but I can't do it. The extra autograph per box doesn't justify paying $500 more than a case of Women of Star Trek Art & Images.

Cases are sold out at Rittenhouse's website at $1,999.99 each. Either Rittenhouse didn't keep many cases to sell or people really wanted those case incentives. Blowout has cases at $1424.95 and boxes at $123.95.

The full inscription auto checklist includes 522 cards from 46 different signers:
  • Amanda McBroom as Captain Phillipa Louvois (12 variations)
  • Ashley Judd as Robin Lefler (11 variations)
  • Barbara Williams as Anna (17 variations)
  • Bob Gunton as Captain Benjamin Maxwell (9 variations)
  • Brent Spiner as Data (10 variations)
  • Brian Bonsall as Alexander (11 variations)
  • Brian Brophy as Bruce Maddox (11 variations)
  • Carel Struycken as Mr. Homn (22 variations)
  • Carolyn Allport as Jessica Bradley (10 variations)
  • Carolyn Seymour as Commander Toreth (11 variations)
  • Christopher McDonald as Lt. Richard Castillo (8 variations)
  • Clyde Kusatsu as Vice Admiral Nakamura (10 variations)
  • Daniel Davis as Professor Moriarty (12 variations)
  • Denise Crosby as Tasha Yar (5 variations)
  • Eileen Seeley as Ard'rian McKenzie (13 variations)
  • Elizabeth Dennehy as Lt. Commander Shelby (15 variations)
  • Eric Menyuk as The Traveler (10 variations)
  • Gates McFadden as Dr. Beverly Crusher (8 variations)
  • Hallie Todd as Lal (21 variations)
  • J.C. Brandy as Captain Marta Batanides (11 variations)
  • Jennifer Hetrick as Vash (14 variations)
  • Jill Jacobson as Vanessa (14 variations)
  • John De Lancie as Q (11 variations)
  • Jonathan Del Arco as Hugh (12 variations)
  • Jonathan Frakes as Commander William Riker (6 variations)
  • Julie Caitlin Brown as Vekor (10 variations)
  • Karole Selmon as Yareena (10 variations)
  • Kerrie Keane as Alexana Devos (11 variations)
  • Lisa Wilcox as Yuta (10 variations)
  • Margaret Reed as Dr. Serova (10 variations)
  • Marina Sirtis as Counselor Deanna Troi (7 variations)
  • Matt McCoy as Devinoni Ral (11 variations)
  • Melinda Culea as Soren (7 variations)
  • Michael Berryman as Captain Rixx (9 variations)
  • Michele Scarabelli as Jenna D'Sora (9 variations)
  • Michelle Forbes as Ensign Ro Laren (14 variations)
  • Natalija Nogulich as Admiral Nechayev (5 variations)
  • Olivia d'Abo as Amanda Rogers (12 variations)
  • Robert O'Reilly as Gowron (19 variations)
  • Robin Curtis as Tallera (12 variations)
  • Shay Astar as Isabella (12 variations)
  • Spencer Garrett as Simon Tarses (10 variations)
  • Susan Diol as Carmen Davila (10 variations)
  • Susan Gibney as Dr. Leah Brahms (12 variations)
  • Suzie Plakson as K'Ehleyr (18 variations)
  • Ursaline Bryant as Captain Tryla Scott (10 variations)

I recognize most but not all of the signers/characters. It's a solid list with some weaker names thrown in. Not having Patrick Stewart, Michael Dorn, LeVar Burton, or Wil Wheaton definitely hurts the set, though.

Unfortunately, the 37 Classic TNG and Aliens Autograph Cards is full of one-off guest stars and random aliens:
  • Marina Sirtis as Counselor Troi (Legends) (Extremely Limited)

  • Julian D. Christopher as Hagon (Aliens) (Limited)
  • Leonard John Crofoot as Trent (Aliens) (Very Limited)
  • Marc Buckland as Katik Shaw (Aliens) (Limited)
  • Richard Cox as Kyril Finn (Aliens) (Extremely Limited)
  • Rudolph Willrich as Reittan Grax (Aliens) (Limited)

  • Melinda Culea as Soren (TNG Classic) (Very Limited)
  • Michael Rothhaar as Garvin (TNG Classic) (Limited)
  • Nicholas Cascone as Ensign Davies (TNG Classic) (Limited)
  • Richard Cox as Kyril Finn (TNG Classic) (Limited)
  • Robert O'Reilly as Scarface (TNG Classic) (Limited)
  • Sachi Parker as Tava (TNG Classic) (Limited)
  • Shelly Desai as V'Sal (TNG Classic) (Limited)
  • Sherman Howard as Endar (TNG Classic) (Limited)
  • Tim Lounibos as Lt. Daniel Kwan (TNG Classic) (Limited)
  • Time Winters as Glinn Daro (TNG Classic) (Limited)
  • Timothy Carhart as Lt. Cmdr Christpher Hobson (TNG Classic) (Limited)
  • Vladimir Velasco as Tan Tsu (TNG Classic) (Limited)

Marina Sirtis is really the only top tier name on this list so you're pretty much guaranteed two weak autos per box.

Also it looks like it'll take three cases to get a full "The Best of Both Worlds" Uncut (53 cards) insert set at 1:12 packs or two per box. The two stamps are 1:864 packs. There's a sketch per box. Odds on the Data relic card from Star Trek: Generations aren't listed.
