Default Stephen Curry National Treasures 29/99 RPA Fake Patch for sale again…

Hard to believe, but the Curry NT 29/99 RPA with obviously fake patch is up for sale once again:

https://www.pwccmarketplace.com/premier-auction/3598

It has been discussed repeatedly here on blowout forums and elsewhere, including the following threads:

https://www.blowoutforums.com/showthread.php?t=146385

https://www.blowoutforums.com/showthread.php?t=983109

https://www.blowoutforums.com/showthread.php?t=1266012

This card just won’t go away. Buyer beware.

Par for PWCC’s course, a complete disgrace.

It's clearly a swingman jersey that someone cut up. Shameful that this has been passed around and grading companies should be all over fake patches, especially blatant ones like this.

Wow! What a bummer. Good thing for holders. Seems like there is at the most only 95 authentic Curry NT RPAs out there!

Wow, this is bad. Is PWCC aware of this? Will they take the card down?

I am gonna' guess that the patch was probably switched years ago when this card wasn't worth as much.

By the way, does anyone have a photo of how it used to look like originally? All the WorthPoint images have been taken down. Hmmmm ...

Thanks

There weren't any on Worthpoint for this card when it was still up and running unfortunately.

Would be interesting to know if Panini has reviewed/confirmed the patch.

Attempting to connect the multiple threads from the OP, I stumbled into some additional negatives for this card. As previously mentioned both 29/99 and 2/25 (only known copies with the large mesh holes) both originated from the same seller.
Greg Lambert (cacardshark)

That account has been linked to other fake patches and also a theft ring , ran out of their card shop.

Taking a look at that old thread, and the referenced Facebook account, it's displays as a near copy of blowouts List of eBay Accounts of Known Card Trimmers & their Agents
If Greg was directly responsible for the apparent patch swap, he certainly knew many scammers that could have done the work.

Here's a few of his friends that stood out.

I tried locating some of the court documents but State Court in California isn't the best at making documents publicly available. If anyone local is interested in taking up the effort, it could be relevant, if jerseys (fake patch material) were among the items being stolen.

Yeah, this is what I figured earlier. If this patch was messed around with, then it must've taken place years ago when it wasn't worth much. However, based on the above information posted by auburn35, there is a pretty high chance it was altered. Very disturbing.

I do agree with auburn35 that Panini should have been the one to look over this card. Getting a grading company to confirm a grade is just a complete waste of time. Panini has nothing to lose by saying "hey, this card has been messed around with!" With a grading company, we all know it's a different story.

Anyhow, the OP's links did lead me to this awesome podcast by the Wax Museum:

https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcas...=1000459364553

Episode 41: Chatting With the Owner of the Altered Curry RPA

I listened to it a couple of nights ago and I don't believe that this person being interviewed is anyone mentioned by auburn35. It just goes to show you that this is a vast problem.

@auburn35 - great post. The 2/25 and 29/99 surely came from the same sloppy patch faker. My god those patches look stupid.

I think the card itself is so iconic that people will still pay a huge premium no matter what the patch.

It can't be a whole lot worse than what Panini is doing with their new high end products.

It's a shame, really. However, it went for about 1/3 of what it would have if the patch was authentic. Most collectors were aware of the "big hole, white jersey" patch not being legitimate.

You think that's bad? There are people out there who are willing to spend millions on a trimmed T206 Wagner!

There just aren't that many out there. Some people view the Curry as the same way. It's the "training wheels" copy for the real thing.

More like 1/4 or 1/5 of what it would have otherwise gone for, but otherwise I agree with you.

Ignoring the irony (Like Beckett, PSA routinely confirms their own grading "errors" and similarly provides PWCC with letters of support), maybe Nat (PSA) can persuade Beckett into having these Curry's with apparent fake patches, correctly identified as altered.

Also, here's some additional coverage and insight on cacardshark from Sports Card Radio.

This is the same PSA that basically decided the KD logoman was ok because there weren't any pics to disprove it. There aren't any "before" pics for this Curry either.

Yeah. Let’s be honest, neither company cares. Except when it comes to covering their own butts.

We are the morons encouraging this behavior because we are the morons still paying hundreds of thousands of dollars for altered cards.
