Was just contemplating what the top 10 FWA's are to own. Here's my list below...what would you change?
1 2005-2006 Sidney Crosby 2 2005-2006 Alexander Ovechkin 3 2015-2016 Connor McDavid 4 2016-2017 Auston Matthews 5 2013-2014 Nathan Mackinnon 6 2007-2008 Patrick Kane 7 2003-2004 Marc Andre Fleury 8 2020-2021 Kirill Kaprizov 9 2014-2015 Leon Draisaitl 10 2019-2020 Cale Makar Last edited by bp06km13; 09-16-2022 at 10:53 AM. |

Malkin would be the main one you left off. Stamkos, Hedman, and Vasilevskiy all have arguments as well. And I'd put Makar over Marner at this point.

For long term value on a hold do you see Makar (even though amazingly talented with a couple awards now) as a defenseman performing better than a forward like Marner playing for the Maple Leafs?

Yes. Makar led all 23 or younger players in scoring last year - not just defensemen, forwards too. Even if he wasn't a defenseman, people would be buying his cards based on that alone.

In no particular order:
1. Crosby 2. Ovechkin 3. McDavid 4. Matthews 5. Malkin 6. P. Kane 7. Stamkos 8. Draisaitl 9. Bergeron 10. Mack Some goalies and defenders with an argument to be on there for sure i.e. Makar, Vasi, etc. Last edited by JanuaryRains; 09-07-2022 at 12:14 AM. |

I listed Marner at 10 mainly due to playing for the Leafs and possible future potential based on current production. Kovalchuk has 1 Rocket to his name, which is more accolades than Marner at the moment obviously. Based on that, Kovalchuk imo will be less sought after (even as an OG FWA). If you want a giggle, you should have a few other candidates over Kovalchuk lol. Would love to see your list, as indicated, it's open for interpretation.

Wasn't trying to offend. Its just funny how Leafs players are always so cherished.
My list would be something like this: 1. Crosby 2. Ovechkin Small Gap 3. McDavid 4. Matthews Large Gap 5. P. Kane 6. Stamkos 7. Malkin 8. Bergeron 9. MA Fleury 10. Mackinon Just outside the top 10 Makar (likely to knock someone out of top 10) Price Toews Kovalchuk (OG status makes a difference IMO) Vasi Hedman Draisaitl I'd put Marner in the category with Gaudreau, Tavares and those types who haven't really won anything. |

Datsyuk is the 4th best player on that list historically and no one has listed him yet. Unless you’re going purely by how much the cards sell for, Datsyuk should be in the top ten. Even without the auto.

In terms of current market value, I would put Ovechkin and McDavid ahead of Crosby. I didn't realize the gap between Ovechkin and Crosby had increased so much until I saw these two FWA's that ended on 08/28/22 over at Heritage Auctions. The Crosby has slightly better subgrades. The Ovi sold for more than twice as much. Maybe it was just a weird anomaly...I don't follow these cards closely.

This might be my exact list too. I agree Makar will be in it in a few years. Only player I might sub in is Toews in for MacKinnon, though another Cup for the Avs would make me reconsider

Just had these come in today. I still think Kovalchuk belongs in the top ten personally. Available by the way.

Especially since they sold for $15k + during the season.
