What is the smartest/best way to ship sealed wax?

I prefer to list with free shipping, so I don't want to eat it LOL I am very ignorant about shipping and I always seem to get annihilated on the cost because I don't know what I'm doing.

Examples:

- One slim hobby box
- One lot of boxes regardless of shape/sizes
- A sealed complete set of Topps
- A hand-sorted set of 200-400 cards

I also have some video games with the boxes, and I want to ship them without the boxes getting crushed, but without killing me on shipping.

Can anyone help? I have big legal costs coming soon due to a dispute with my employer and I need to raise money for both legal fees and living

shipping depends on distance of course, but under a pound you can ship for like $5. over a pound it’s like $8/9.

Walmart sells a 6x6x6 box that is my go to for smaller size boxes, they have one a little bigger for larger boxes.

complete sets are not easy to ship because they are heavy and odd sized.

Its been a minute, but I think USPS has a flat rate padded envelope you could cram a 400ct box into (along with sufficient padding)

The rest I go with the closest priority box but its obviously not cheap.

USPS Priority Flat Rate Boxes

Theres Large and Medium. You can request other sizes on the USPS site. Regional A and B. Anything under a pound could probably be shipped in a smaller box costs less than $6 as mentioned above. Walmart has some larger boxes than 6x6x6 that can be used for stuff under 1 pound too.

You can actually fit 2 400 count box’s in a flat rate padded, it takes some doing though. Two 300 ct fit nicely, and you don’t have to worry about padding on the outside of the boxes if you pack the cards properly in the boxes.

I’ve had wax shipped to me in flat rate bubble mailers that arrived ok, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Medium flat rate or regional A for wax, although just by weight in a regular box is sometimes the cheapest.

^ Look up what you can send in regional rate A and B as far as dimensions & weight limit. You probably need to order (for free, the boxes I mean) from usps.com because the local post office may not carry them.

If you can box up a hobby box or blaster and squeeze it into a flat rate padded mailer, those go for around $8. I wouldn't ship *just* the bare box/blaster in one, it could get dented/crushed. Needs to be in another box.

If you can bubble-wrap a box/blaster, box it, and then fit it into the flat rate priority envelope (the non-padded mailer one), it's slightly cheaper than the padded mailer.

A lot depends on the distance.

For one or two <= 400ct bcw boxes, I generally find it's cheapest to just put in a small flat rate padded envelope (assuming it's not light enough for first class, in which case first class is definitely the cheapest. However a 300ct box or so I dont think is light enough for first class).

For a single wax box, if it's small and thin might even fit into a flat rate padded envelope like the above, with room for bubble wrap around it, but generally I like to put a wax box in a box to ship. Unless it is going pretty far across country, I have found the regular (non-flat) rate priority is usually cheaper than medium flat rate (the smallest flat rate box it would go in), since a single box isnt that heavy.

For a lot of multiple sets- say, 3 or even 4 Topps 1-792 sets, I have found they will fit into those long 'board game' length large flat rate priority mail boxes, with the chess piece on them. They usually have to be specially ordered or ask clerk for them.

A single factory set of Topps is a slight annoyance because it cant be broken up into 2 (400ct) boxes and put into, say, a flat rate envelope. If going across the whole country, it might be worth it to squeeze it into a medium flat rate box (not the cube, the flatter one)- I think it just barely fits. Or if not going that far probably just regular box and do priority mail.

You can also send stuff Parcel select ground or whatever it's called, but I've found the difference in price is only significant when the item is pretty heavy. Usually about the same to just go priority with the stuff I send.

Wanted to bump this for anyone else who is interested or people going through old threads.

here is the link to the usps store where you can get free packaging. I selected the stuff I can't get at my post office - the Tyvek envelope, the padded mailers, the regional box (odd shape, but would work for slim hobby boxes), and small envelope.

I snag all of the boxes i use to ship sets and wax boxes from the grocery store. of you time it right whem they are restocking it’s all been free for me. bacon boxes, coffee pod boxes, lunchables boxes….all work great and zero expenses!

Don't guess. Pack your item and weigh it or take it to the PO to get an exact price before you list it. Flat rate boxes are good for better items like pricey sealed boxes, and for other things just ask the PO workers to help you find the best rate.

I will add, when I sold my 2018 Topps Update sets, I used the padded envelopes for 1 set, and if people bought multiple i used a medium flat rate box.

Never had an issue, just make sure to bubble wrap them well in the 400ct boxes.

The usps Regional A and B service has been discontinued as are the boxes. If you use pirate ship to create your labels priority cubic is what you would now be after as a replacement to regional priority box rates.
