Taking the obvious "MLB can hype this guy to the moon and more if he crushes HRs" angle and setting that aside, ARod's assessment of his BMI puts him with a 28+ fat free mass index.

When Major League Baseball’s five-year labor contract with MLBPA ended in December and the MLB lockout began, the agreement between both parties on baseball’s Joint Drug Program also terminated, ending testing for steroids and other PEDs for players.

The lockout ended on March 10, sending MLB’s players, managers, clubhouse attendants and drug testers back to work. Players, if they wanted to, had 99 days without drug testing, more than enough time to use a banned substance to bulk up and then purge it from their system to provide a negative test, per The New York Times.

“You might start seeing some 50-home run seasons again,” as Victor Conte Jr., the central figure in the BALCO steroids scandal who pleaded guilty to distributing steroids and money laundering in 2005, told The Times. “In terms of performance enhancement, the gains that could be made would be enormous. So they would just do very intense explosive type weight training. And this develops fast-twitch muscle fiber, and the benefits that will come will carry over. It’s not just that they got this boost.”

The difference is the lockout allowed players to take what they wanted while training this past off-season without the threat of being tested. Judge is also in a walk year and is trying to maximize his value -- it's not a typical season for him.

I'm not saying for certain he used PEDs to boost his numbers this season, but it's suspicious. Blame MLB and MLBPA for allowing the possibility.

Honestly, Pujols' season is the most suspicious. At the age of 42 -- he's reportedly older -- he suddenly became one of the best hitters in MLB mid season, conveniently allowing him to reach 700 home runs. It's hard to fathom a guy who was a poor hitter for a half decade suddenly becoming an All Star level hitter while being the oldest hitter in MLB and on the verge of retirement -- very weird stuff.

I think I'll just enjoy the show -- I don't want my mind wandering in the gutter too much.

Read Conte's quote again -- the benefits will carry over into the season. Players train hard in the off-season to improve their performance during the season. PEDs allow athletes to train more often, harder and longer.
