Default 2021-22 products released during 2022-23 Season

I know this has happened before too, but it’s getting way out of hand. Why is this even allowed? It should be considered fraud and false advertising to release a product after the start of the 2022-23 season and call it a 2021-22 product. These cards shouldn’t be considered “rookie cards” if they are released during a player’s second season and they already had a full slate of first year cards. As consumers we need to stop buying these products.

I’ll get off my soap box now.

UD has a 2020/21 hockey product that is yet to release, and the 22/23 season just started

It shouldn’t be though. If you can’t get a product out on time, the manufacturer should be forced to scrap it or reclassify it to the new season.

It sucks, but who is going to remember/care a few years from now that a certain product was released on a certain date? Outside of a very small percentage of people like the OP, collectors/investors/etc are going to recognize the cards as being rookie cards whether they came out at the start of that rookies' season or if they came out a month into that players 2nd season.

I know it’s an extreme example, but what is preventing panini from releasing a 2018-19 or 2019-20 product this year and calling it a late release?

Give collectors another shot at a luka rookie or Zion/Morant rookie - it would sell out immediately.

Hoops premium kinda fit that bill, and collectors eventually sniffed out they were cows being milked for all they had. Actually was offered 30 Walmart megas of hoops premium at 47 per last night, I love that ja blue ice rc photo!

Panini just lost control of their release dates a long time ago.
Everyone kind of knows the optimal release schedule for products for each season and if Panini could they would probably follow it because it would make more money for them.
But whatever the reason is (covid, material shortage, bad planning etc) they can't fix it.

UD releases rookies in 2017-18, 2018-19 sets that are labelled 2015-16.
They did some nasty stuff and idiot collectors accept it all.

Hoops Premium Stock ended up being a one and done, right? I figured we'd see it again in 20-21 but it never happened.

They printed a ton of that stuff but I can't deny that some of the cards look super nice.

I agree unless the print date on the back of the card doesn't match the rookie class.

They can just print whatever date they feel like.

Opening night of the 22-23 season is here. How many “21-22” products do we have left to release?

Also seems like a huge mistake for Panini to not have their production schedule set to release Hoops on opening day. But that’s the sort of thing that a competent company would do.

Still their fault. Lots of ways this issue could have been addressed and they haven’t done it.

Looks like Panini One and One is next for basketball.

Seeing 2021-22 Mosaic pushed to end of January 2023 is such a joke, honestly.
Contenders Optic is online exclusive this time (was it like that last year?)

What else is left?

Looks like they fixed the listing on Panini's website, earlier today it said online exclusive. That text is gone now.

What’s left for them to do?

One and One
Flawless
Mosaic
Contenders Optic

Did Select and Immaculate come out yet?

Isn’t it just getting a stack of blank sheet n printing photos on it ?.. are there special procedures in producing trading cards??? I always thought it’s a very simple process

Panini had no issues getting all of their World Cup product out in time for the World Cup. They can do it if they think it will impact their sales.

I mean I’d prioritize the set tied to the biggest sporting event in the world too. And the delays with other products are probably the “issues”.
