if you are at a Card show and see a card for $50, does a dealer pretty much expect someone to come in and offer $40 and hope to meet them at $45? are there people who see a card for $50 and straight up buy it at that price? I get the cheaper cards like $5 an under you probably shouldn't haggle unless you are buying alot of them, but for cards that are pricier lets say $20 and up, what percentage of people straight up buy it at that price without trying to get it cheaper?
Also at card shops, is it bad etiquette to try and make an offer? I get card shows it seems trying to get a discount is a normal thing, but not sure if it is acceptable at a card store. |

Yes we haggle…..low dollar cards are “your luck” if its a card that spikes in the $5 box or whatever….
At LCS you can trade and haggle as long as its not consigned….

love to haggle at shows, and in that $50 scenario unless its a waaaaay underpriced card, then never pay sticker.
tend to be less haggly at a shop

I think it is fairly common in both situations honestly. as you stated, it is easier to haggle with pricing on more expensive cards. at a shop I always try to build a relationship with the shop owner first before doing a lot of haggling, if you can do that then they will give you better deals on cards for your PC

This may not be the case at all but what I learned is to bundle - if you are that type of collector, where maybe pick out some lesser cards and negotiate to have them thrown in with the highest price card.

For me: Haggle. Buy more cards get a better deal. Trade? Let’s see it! All of the above. As long as it’s a good faith offer I would love to hear it.

I don’t see anything wrong with haggling, but I don’t do it. If I want the card, I pay the sticker. If I don’t have the $, I say so and wait to see if a lower offer is made. If so, I take it if I can afford it. If no lower offer, I move on.

Right here. If person has a card listed at $100 and they go for $50 all day then just move on. If it's listed at $55 then go ahead. Also it helps to be friendly. I don't mean sucking up, but being polite, and doing some small talk if possible.

If you price cards fairly, people will pay sticker.
If you price cards fairly, people will have the “never pay sticker” mentality. If you price cards fairly, people will annoy you with their haggling techniques they use that are based on the majority of dealers who don’t price things fairly. |
