Talking FS: Cards Only A Mother Could Love (circa '09-'12)

Been a while since I’ve been really active in the hobby or on this board (Life, kids, work, kids, kids) and recently got the itch to dip my toes back into the hobby, partly because of my 8 year old son’s newfound enthusiasm for baseball cards (I’m a Cleveland Guardians fan and what 8 year old wouldn’t love a player who walks up to “Sponge Bob Square Pants” theme?) Before I dive in I feel a moment of reflection is needed, to go back through my collection from the last foray and both evaluate and evacuate some of my previous decisions (mistakes?).

Every couple days I’m going to post a card (or cards) of players from semi-recent yore that I’m offering up to the masses at a set price (per guidelines!). It’s a very specific point in collecting (’09-’12) and the feeling you’ll get when some names pop up will be akin to hearing Linkin Park or Pearl Jam on “classic rock” stations. Sorry to make you feel old, ya olds, but time flies. Generally I want to use this thread for three reasons…

1. To illustrate that (as most of you know) THERE ARE NO SURE PROSPECTS and the best thing you can do is ALWAYS SELL HIGH. Seriously, get rid of those Francos, Cruzs, Valeras, De La Cruzs, Woods, Watsons, Anything with color or low # parallels…for the love of all things Donavan Tate, get rid of them NOW when they’re actually worth something. Self-deprecatingly, this is going to be a hilarious trip back about 10-15 years, highlighting complete investor ineptitude to the point where now the players own mothers may not even part with a nickel for their cardboard.
2. SELFISHLY, Get rid of cards so I can buy new ones and hopefully hit on the next great prospect that I will hold onto for far too long and try to get rid of in a thread like this 12 years from now.
3. HAVE FUN! I hope no one takes this too serious and enjoys the posts and nostalgia and maybe you’ll even find a card or two along the way that will interest you and probably only you (and maybe the guy’s mom).

So without further ado….Opening Day of “Cards Only A Mother Could Love”

FS: 2010 Bowman Chrome Donavan Tate, Auto #1/25. Let’s say $30 DLVD OBO

Think I held onto this one too long? Third overall pick, multi-sport athlete, I thought I had the Bo Jackson of Primetimes.
Some comments on him from THIS BOARD:

he is one hell of a player. He has all the tools and the padres dont have any star players in front of him look to see him in there 2012 lineup.

best high school athlete in last year's draft. has plus speed and could develop plus power. if he projects 1 level a year, which is just about how often the Padres advance their guys he could be in the majors as a regular by 2013.

I compare him to the Dbacks Juston Upton, they both came out of high school and it took Upton about 2 years.tate will be fine.Dont sell

Welp, I didn’t sell. Don’t worry, I did also have the LeMahieu /25 from this set…that I sold way, way too late. Damn it

So anyone want a Donavan Tate 1/25 auto??!?!??!? Mrs. Tate??

Always looking for Indians/Guardians

MODS, I KNOW THIS IS A LITTLE LEFT OF USUAL, BUT I’M TRYING TO ADHERE TO GUIDELINES, LET ME KNOW IF THERE’S WAYS I NEED TO ADJUST TO KEEP THIS GOING! I THINK IT COULD BE FUN AND I HAVE A TON OF MAT GAMEL’S TO GET RID OF.
