Default Showing off a Reggie Miller auto (with a story to go with it)

Back in June 2017, Panini announced that they had signed a deal with Reggie Miller and he’d be showing up in their products soon. This blog post specifically mentioned that he would be in the Panini Preferred Silhouettes set. While those weren’t out yet, they also teased an Instant Access auto that they planned to release online.

I already had a couple pre-Panini Reggie autos, so the Instant stuff didn’t interest me at all. I figured I would save my money for future memorabilia cards instead (which I did).

Fast forward to about a month ago, and I was doing a little project where I was making a list of all the Pacers games I had been to and trying to find cards that depicted those games. It involved a ton of searching on Getty Images and COMC. One of those games was a February 2005 Pacers/Magic game in Orlando. Here's a pictures I took at the game on my digital camera:

As I was looking through the game photos on Getty, I realized one of the Reggie Miller shots looked very familiar. It turns out that Panini had used it on a handful of cards, including the Instant Access auto they plugged at the beginning of Reggie’s time with the company.

Eventually one of these showed up on eBay for a reasonable price, and the rest is history. As an added bonus, I was reading more about Reggie’s first Panini signing only to find out it had been completed with former Panini employee Tone Stakes, who I had back on my podcast a couple times back in April of 2020.

Here's the copy I picked up - thanks for letting me share!

Great stuff! Reggie still seems like a pretty tough auto. Same with Ewing I remember people thinking once they signed with Panini the autos would be everywhere.

At the time, it felt like Reggie was in a lot of Panini stuff, but looking back, there really wasn't that much.

That one is many miles away still, but it will be part of the updated post!

You ever come across any Reggie auto'd jerseys? It is the ONE THING that I want to find, so I can put it on my wall.

I feel like I see them on eBay occasionally, but I don't ever really look for them.

Great get Kyle. The only thing crazier would have been if you were in the picture.

I'm a big fan of this project. Sounds like a great way to select cards to add your collection that are uniquely meaningful. Not to mention that photo matching cards is just fun. I also like that the auto is gold given the rarity of that in Panini's sets. Congrats on the addition!

Cool story!

Still looking for a 00-01 Autographics to complete that set. It's been tough to find
