Default Did print runs increse from 2019 to 2020?

I noticed while filling some sets on Sportlots there seemed to be more Topps base commons in 2020 than in 2019. I then took a few players and compared them by year. Guys who were on the same team, starters not great either year guys like Jason Heyward, Kyle Seager etc and saw they usually had 20-25% more base cards available in 2020 than in 2019.
1. Has anyone done any research or looked into print runs from 2019 - 2020 onward?
2. Does this increase if it exists extend to Chrome, Prizm sets too?

It's only logical that with the Covid boom, companies would increase print runs. With major retailers running out of product any company would. Are we seeing a junk wax II era? I know the serial numbered stuff would stay the same but then pulls would be more rare. Maybe they just add 20% more parrells/insets?
Just curious if anyone has done any research or read anthing online. I'm a vintage bb card guy slowly getting into newer stuff.
Thanks!

Print runs in 2020 went up a f—-ton.

The only reason 2020 wax is still high is that the breakers went bonkers. If the base sitting in boxes in storage and garages ever gets sold off at pennies on the dollar, it’s going to be a tsunami.

Doing more research and yeah, it's a #@#@#@#@ show. Looks like things started to go off the tracks in '17-18 and then it just went nuts in 2020-21 and is getting worse.
Good luck!

You may be right… after series 1 I’ve only run print runs for Stadium Club

Series 1 is astonishing… print run up at least 3x since 2018 and now exceeding 1MM

There is a chart floating around that shows print runs over the last several years. Basically print runs had been expanding year over year for quite some time. Then for some reason 2018-2019 was basically flat. Then 2020 put it right back on the trend line.

Not sure if this is the video you're talking about, but it illustrates your point in the basketball market

Yep, looks like 2020 is when things really got out of hand. Some releases only did regular increases but by '21-22 most everything is overproduced and quality is falling off. I routinely filter out 2020-2022 and will do so with '23 until they show less production. Outside of the Bowman 1st Auto and a few other things, it's junk wax 2.0.
Add to this people looking at what they spent end of year and how much they lost on Tatis & others, I'd guess Jan/Feb might be pretty slow.

I am not sure who, but someone did a production analysis of Mike Trout base RC vs. the current crop of RCs (Acuna, Tatis, JROD, and etc) and the numbers were stunning. All the card makers are printing money.
