Default 2023 Hobby Goals

Here are mine for 2023

1. Clear out all non player collection cards and sell those to other player/team collectors
2. Have Aaron Kurcz sign the final 6 cards I need to complete my IP collection for his stuff
3. Submit 100+ cards to PSA
4. Continue selling off my Will Clark & Eddie Murray player collections
5. Sort and checklist my Stacey Augmon collection
6. Add at least 20 cards to my Darin Erstad collection. I only need about 125 non-1/1 cards.
7. Add at least 1 Bucky Jacobsen card. I need 6 non-1/1 cards. Want 2005 Topps Black /54.
8. Continue enjoying the hobby on my own terms

How I did for 2022

1. Get all my non-PC items sorted and prepared to sell (FB and COMC).
2. Prep a few dozen cards for PSA submission
3. Sell off the parts of my Will Clark and Eddie Murray collections that aren't interesting to me anymore
4. Open 2022 Topps with my 7 year old son
5. Add to my Darin Erstad, Bucky Jacobsen, Stacey Augmon, and Aaron Kurcz collections
6. Add another GU jersey, GU bat, other GU item from any players above
7. Enjoy the hobby more

Didn't get to do any 2022 Topps with my boy. We gave up looking at Target/Wal-Mart etc. Instead, we bought some online sets to break up and some to hold.

I did add a Game Used Rangers jersey for Will Clark. Probably the pickup of the year for me.

I’m cutting off all my box purchases starting now. The two holiday boxes are the topping on the cake of a crazy fun year. Back to my other hobbies.

Bust WAY less wax.
Find a nice high end insert or auto set to put together from scratch.
Buy more Vintage.

I decided to restart my collection a bit ago. Just focusing on certain things. I’ve only added 1 card so far so next year, I’d like to add 5 lifetime PC Cards

1. I just set a plan for buying for the year and I want to stick to it.
2. Get rid of at least half of my things that belong in $1 to $10 boxes.
That's it.

Buy less sportscards, and buy more Pokemon. My little guy and I love breaking ETBs for pure fun.

After looking at my credit card statement year in review, I agreed (was told by) the woman I would only buy cards with funds obtained through selling cards in 2023.

I ordered a case of Bowman Chrome to hold me over and I've also got a big PSA order coming back so should be able to start selling that to prep for 2023 releases.

So looks like the top goal of 2023 will be downsizing and selling anything not in the PC. I need to figure out the best way to do this...

Finish scanning and loading Throwback cards to website.
Finish sorting all cards by teams to sell off.
Pick up a few autos at decent prices.

1. Go through at least 33% of my monster boxes and pull cards for value boxes for card shows.
2. Inventory my 1980s unopened wax collection.
3. Get several cases and boxes to Steve @bbce to wrap from my 1980s unopened wax collection
4. Set up at a card show and sell my excess 1980s unopened wax and value box cards from my monster boxes.
5. Build the 2023 Heritage Set (1974 is one of my ATF sets) by busting multiple cases of each release (regular, hi-number, minors).
6. Put the above base set from all 3 releases in a binder so I can look at it from time to time.
7. Start my "Talented Fat Men of Baseball" PC

1. I want to reduce down from a couple thousand cards in my collection to around 300-400.
2. Utilize COMC for more sales.
3. Bust MORE wax. I actually haven't busted much the last 5 years. I want to primarily focus on older wax though. The new stuff has been lackluster.
4. Find and purchase the 2018 Bowman Chrome Draft McClanahan Superfractor Auto
5. Go to the National. It has been 4 years since I have been to one and need to go.

Only purchase 7-10 big “PSA4 or better” vintage cards next year while selling almost all of my modern collection. Will be keeping my 90’s Griffey inserts, Messi & Mbappe high end, and a 5-10 other higher end modern cards.

Will be buying 49-56 Jackie’s, 51-55 Willie.

I'm not 100% sure what my card goals will be for next year yet. I passed a big milestone of 10,000 unique Twins that's been on the horizon for awhile, but it's not realistic for me to get to another notable mark of like 15k. I always have some goals for things with my website and other hobby related but not specifically my collection, and those will remain. But for what I actually want to do with cards, I'm not quite sure what the specific goals will be

A lot of it may just be to keep doing what I've been doing - pick up cards I like and not worry too much about anything else. Sometimes just keeping things simple is the way to go, I think. There's a lot of factors out there that look to pull you in so many different ways these days

I hit most of my 2022 goals of getting a Brady RC and autos for Wander, Witt, and JRod and getting better at letting things go.

For 2023 I really just want to stick with 5/6 boxes I really enjoy between multiple sports and stop chasing wax.
