Default What does your PC collecting look like?

When I got back into collecting a few years ago I decided to pick two of my favorite players from my favorite team and just buy their cards. I quickly realized that picking two players that are iconic guys with big hobby followings put some financial limits on what cards I could get. Then I expanded to team collecting. Not completing sets or collecting every player but it grew to about 20 players that I would collect. This was good because it let me get some autos and lots of numbered refractors etc for a fraction of the cost of my original two players. I really appreciate the look of certain cards so getting some rarer parallels or high end cards of my extended list of players for $5-20 instead of hundreds of dollars for my main two guys was appealing. Then I started expanding sets and getting whatever I could of whatever set for any of these players. Then I started buying prospects for team I collect. Now I have what feels like a big disjointed collection that has no theme other then the team. I feel like refocusing. My tentative plan is focus on my two original guys and maybe 4-5 other guys and focus sets down to Chrome, Stadium Club and Heritage/Archives and maybe some Triple Threads because those are my favorite sets. I know there is no right or wrong way to collect but I'm curious how others handle the PC side of collecting

I started seriously collecting in 2016. Over the years I’ve started to move away from 1st Bowmans, and gear more towards Topps RCs ‘n such. Even more so, I think Jazz Chisholm cards make up about 60% of my purchases. Lately, I’ve been buying a lot of low numbered 2nd year Jazz Chisholm cards.

my main "focus" is graded rookie cards.

then i will branch off to other slabs of players i am a fan of.

if i had more focus, i would have a "better" collection i suppose, but i love collecting

See signature. Doing a run of Willie Mays base cards from 1951-1973 and also trying to complete a master set of Bobby Bonds cards. Slowly building 1993 Finest refractor set. Just over halfway done with that one. I generally don't hold onto the sets that I build (have sold a 97 UD Game Jersey set and broken up a 1999 UD Century Legends Epic Signatures auto set in the last few months). For me, the satisfaction is in the chase.

No shame in shifting the focus of your PC from time to time. I've done so numerous times.

My collection is team-themed and my current focus is: rare autos, rare patches, refractor team sets (no prospect stuff, no 1/1s) 1993-2019, and IP signed cards of some of my favorite players growing up.

I'm really selective about newer stuff in particular. My preference will always be for harder to find 90s-2000s issues. Also, as my collection has advanced, I've sold off a lot of the cheaper, easier-to-find stuff that wasn't part of a team set or something. Another thing I've done over the years is sell stuff of current players whose prices skyrocketed and then took the money and put it into cards I like more from the 90s-2000s. Can't have it all so it's good to make strategic trade-offs.

One guy, though I limit myself to his Cubs cards. Now that he's a Yankee, it's been mostly filling in some of the older gaps.

I think my next goal is to complete the run of Cubs from the T206 set. After that, who knows. I don't think I'll do another active player PC. It can quickly balloon out of control given the number of sets that get released every year (and the number of parallels per set). I've got close to 4000 unique Rizzo cards, and that doesn't even get you to 50% of the total number of cards released with him in a Cubs uniform.

I started collecting again around 09 but didn't really focus a PC until my Kershaw PC around 2014 where I just started grabbing 1 of everything.

I also continued my Griffey Jr collection I had when I was younger and eventually put together a run of all of his RCs in PSA 9 while they were all fairly cheap (highest cost was Bowman Tiffany around $250)

I was trying to do a Dodgers PSA RC collection but after the last couple years getting a Jackie and pee wee reese may not happen for quite a while but I did already get most of the other big names.

Beyond that, I still have collections of other Dodgers, Trout, Ohtani, auto cards, HOF jersey cards, graded RC and other things. Ultimately it comes down to collect however you want.

Yep. Mookie is one of my core 2 players but only Red Sox cards. I almost consider lucky he's on the Dodgers now because there aren't a thousand new Mookie Red Sox cards every year. I also have a lot of Xander and now he's gone. But it does get out of control with the amount of cards every year.

I collect one set from 2002 and have way too many Kevin Kouzmanoff cards. I can't justify why I collected him. Maybe I just like the name.

I'm also working on getting autos of guys who have thrown no hitters because it seems like fun. Not putting a ton of energy into that one just yet but where I have my fill of Kouzie cards and I'm almost done the set it gives me something new to focus on.

I collect Yordan, Marco, and Soto. With a primary focus on rookie, Bowman 1st, topps flagship, and Sterling.

I like building rainbows and connecting the different player collections.

If Marco doesn't perform this season he will get cut from my PC.

I wish I focused my PC more to save funds, but Griffey is expensive and team collecting is also expensive.

I'm thinking about moving to Kentucky Wildcats stuff in college jerseys only.

I've got a few different collections I consider my PC. First, PSA Graded rookies of all writer-elected HOF players from 1999 on. I'm going to extend it back eventually. Second, is a run of PSA Graded Ripken Topps cards from his playing days in 9 or higher (just missing 97). I'm starting to add the subset cards too. PSA 10 Favre rookies for football (missing the Pro Set). Braves cards. Then there are a few sets like some Topps 206 parallel sets I've done and I am working on 2019 Holiday Variations, 2022 Holiday Variations, and 2022 Holiday Metallics. Really though, the HOF collection is what I consider the core of my PC.

I have a couple things I'm working on (in my signature), but both are for my kids.

Other than that there are quite a few guys that I just like to find cool parallels of for decent prices. Most are Cardinals (Arenado, Carlson, Goldschmidt, Molina, Pujols), but the others consist of Tim Anderson, Acuna, Betts, Bichette, Jazz, Vlad Jr, and some random pitchers here and there. I really like to collect guys who I genuinely enjoy watching play - so I'm think I might pick up some more Julio when prices are more in my range.

Most of these aren't crazy big cards. I've been picking up a lot of Silver Pack parallels of the non-StL dudes. I also like parallels from Heritage, Finest, and Stadium Club.

(I'm also in recovery for a brief Brendan McKay addiction, but I'm mostly sober now, thank you.)

I’m 46. My PC is collecting rookies of every HOF or possible future HOF rookie cards of players I’ve watched play from 1982 until I die. I also PC a few certain players as well. Trout, Vladdy, Strider, and Money Mike (Braves fan here). Modern I try to get SPs, SSP, #’d parallels, and on card autos. I’m a huge sucker for color match parallels.

I've evolved and changed a lot over the years. Tried set collecting, player collecting, team collecting.

I'm too scatterbrained for that and I like too much different stuff.

What I've landed on is being an Examples Collector.

Basically, I want examples of any and every set I like.

I have players and teams I target in those chases. But it's more about having a card from the set.

I'll find a set I like, research the checklist and prices. Then decide which card(s) I want and go for it.

A more expensive set like 1997 MU PMGs I have one red - Mike Alstott - and that's good for me. As far as I'm concerned, I'm done with 1997 PMGs.

I like Allen and Ginter wood minis, so I'm trying to get just 1 wood mini from each year of Ginter.

Then, something like 1994-95 E-Motion Ntense, those are pretty affordable and awesome so I build the whole set.

Anyway. That's about the gist of it.

We'd get along. I definitely like Stadium Club and Heritage. And lots of silver pack cards. I especially like the 1987 style silver packs from Chrome

My main PC is autographs of players from my favorite teams and a few stars I’m just a fan of. I try to find on card if possible but I like getting a different variety of sets and really just like 1 auto from an individual player.

A few smaller side collections is at least 1 Yankee Flagship card for every season and a Jets base team set for every year of Topps Chrome/Optic. For football I like having a top QB rookie card collection as well.

Other than that it’s just a random mishmash of cool cards I’ve ripped
