Default 2023 Bowman Pre-Order?

Saw this on Twitter - looks like Topps has teasing preorders for 2023 Bowman baseball - hobby, jumbo and blasters.

Wondering what the price will be and if this is the plan going forward?

No distributors have sell sheets or pre-sale pricing yet so probably more of this going forward.

This is up on Topps:

Coming Soon: 2023 Bowman Baseball Pre-Order
Beginning Monday 3/27, 2023 Bowman Baseball will be available for pre-order purchase in Hobby, Jumbo, or Value Box configurations, while supplies last

Given the SW pre sale this week it looks like they are at least testing this, if not officially moving to a pre-order system. I would imagine missed production dates would be more of a concern in this environment, unless they refuse to give a date of release during the pre-sale.

Follows the model of Fanatics going to more direct sales vs through distributors and resellers. Why sell to distributors at $50/box when you can sell direct @ $80. Still lets them dump the crap that doesn't sell on the distributors to clear out.

So is this the first major release that cuts distributors out? Very interested to see pricing.

If the plan is to get these shipped out to customers for release day then this is actually great.

Nothing wrong with a pre-order.

Disappointed Fanatics abandoned their Dutch auction plans. Guess they thought the market would remain in an indefinite heater.

This is an interesting development. Puts everyone on even ground for initial pricing. If you can punch your order through, and not have it cancelled! Topps website is going to get mobbed.

I don't think it will priced low enough to crash the site. Should be around what it normally is, if not a tad higher. They just want to take the profits for themselves, instead of giving it distributors and beyond.

Is the expectation this is only going to be available for pre-order from Topps? Surely the big players like Blowout will have this available for pre-order afterwards.

Not if Fanatics thinks they can sell the entire production themselves. With what they paid for the licenses, they better get to that point soon. They need to milk every dollar they can.

What were Jumbos and Hobby's going for at release last year?

Welcome to the future

No clue what all sports marketing or southern hobby have for pre orders ?

I’m assuming blowout and Dave adams Steele city have nothing yet

All I know is there is a lot of people in this hobby who made fortune over last few years. And all that will be coming to an end over next few years

Because fanatics would be fools not sell everything themselves just like this

As big as they are. Why would they want distribution?

As Mike Mahan stated last week at the Chicago show: Fanatics wants to bring people closer to the athletes, bring people closer to the cards. Not going to happen if prices stay high. Will be interesting going forward.

Doesn't this destroy the chances of seeing odds before they go on sale? Barring some back door dealings...
