Default Ginter Cryptocurrency

My worst financial decision I ever made with cards wasn’t the Soto update black RC, Acuna red ink heritage RC, or the numerous low numbered Ohtani RC autos I pulled and sold too early.

It was the psa 10 Ginter x mini crypto card I pulled and sold for like $750.

These are still going up in price? I thought it was a pandemic pump thing.

I wonder how easy it would be to counterfeit a base Allen ginter card - probably not too difficult.

It never stopped being a thing. It’s really only continued to climb.

At least on the parallels

I realized as soon as I posted that it was the mini, those seem to have always stayed strong since they jumped. The base Ginter X has had it's ups and downs.

I don't understand this card. Is it just a plain card or is there some sort of redemption code to attach actual cryptocurrency to it? Is it a tangible, tradable, crypto fund?

I pulled an Exquisite Michael Jordan number pieces /23 game used prime patch auto in 2008 and sold it for $990 thinking I came out on top shortly thereafter bc I had almost doubled my money on the box.
It’s sold for over half a million dollars during the covid bubble insanity. Yours are rookie numbers.

It is a generic picture of a crypto token. It's not even a picture of an actual bitcoin.

There's nothing to understand except people are stupid.

This was my biggest mistake was opening the 18 sealed boxes of Ginter x I have. I got 4 left.

Out of 14 boxes I pulled 2 mini black 7 large black ones.

Sold one mini for 11k
Sold one mini on eBay for 18,888

Sold 3 large crypto x for around 2k

Sold 2 complete sets for about 7k a piece.

Got 2 remaining.

Prices have dropped significantly. Glad I got out while I did.

I only paid like 79 a box so this investment has basically funded my whole collecting over past 4-5 years

I’m not understanding how this was your biggest mistake.

Hmm.

Last two sales on eBay were last July (8200) and September (5100). There was a box in May on Goldin as well (5400 all-in). So that's ~6233 avg. Market is down, but (a) those prices were already down from the peak of the bubble and (b) these boxes are rare and have some big cards - so let's just say they'd do 6k today?

14 x 6k = 84k (before worrying about fees, tax, whatever).

If I'm reading that list, the minis brought ~30k, the full size 6k, the two complete sets 14k. So that's 50k. Two complete sets still in hand, but prices are down, I don't know what they'd bring now.

Obviously a huge profit was realized, but yeah, I could see the 14 sealed boxes being worth more today than what he got out of them. Probably not a huge delta, though.

I opened 12 boxes, and it was probably the best break I’ve ever had. Crypto mini and Ohtani auto, plus a bunch of other solid autos.

Exactly 14 sealed boxes were worth way more

Found these two pics from eBay

Crazy. There's a full 350-card set of the minis available right now at that price - OBO! Admittedly, the crypto in that set is a PSA, 8 which may hurt the value a bit compared to if it were still raw. But still.
